6 weeks ago I read about GPL here...
4 weeks ago I downloaded the demo...
...and last week I couldn't restrain myself anymore,
so I went out and bought it.

Hello,Sierra ! Are you listening ??????
Your are still making money on this fantastic sim,
and mainly thanks to this group!

One interesting observation: I beat the ***out of almost
every other driving sim/game now(except for maybe Viper racing...),
after some intense experience with GPL....

Well let me say, THEY WERE WRONG. Certainly after one week, I am not seeing
much of Hill or Graham on the track just yet, but I'm having a blast anyway.
I'm pretty happy with my progress so far in driving this sim. I've only been
racing at the Glen as of yet. I can turn consistant laps in the low 1:08's and
with 19 opponents I can usually qualify and run in the top half of the field.
That is until about lap 20 or 30 when I skate off the outside of the Outer
Loop, quickly throw my headphones on the floor and my monitor across the room
and go to bed.

Then the next day, I put my system back together and do it all over again.

    Sierra/Papyrus lost their shirts on GPL. It was a financial disaster.
And this is most likely the number 1 reason why we haven't seen a new Cart
sim from them.

     Good luck on your GPL career, because you will most likely not be
playing any other racing sims for sometime. Graham Hill is his name, I'm
assuming you meant to refer to Jim Clark his teammate.

     Those are pretty impressive times at the Glen for just one week.

Yes,I know.....that was one of the reasons that I wrote this mail,
to let them know that people are still discovering it,even if
it had a rough start.VROC also played a big part for me
in understanding just how good it is and how much support
it still enjoys.
I also think it is GREAT that a company can put out two patches
 to improve a game a full year after it was released.

Well,thank you...I knew about most of these already,due
to having researched the game thoroughly before buying it,
but it is alway very nice to get the most essential stuff
listed in one place.
I'll check out winVROC more closely and certainly the
chat.

I evny you...my best after several weels on the Glen is still only
1.23....and i generally get around 1.30.
Any special tips for learning more quickly?
I do read the book and I'm experimenting with driving techniques,but that's

as far as I've got yet.

aye to that.....I just wish I had more time for driving on the Ring.....

oh. but we are talking about watkins glen and grand prix class cars, do
we?
you turn 1:30s and you don't leave the track right? if you can stay on
the track, and have all driving aids turned on, you should at least do a
1:20 in the GP car.

you learn faster if you prevent yourself from making to many stupid
mistakes: brake early, go slow, be smooth, don't push it and: be very
easy with the wheel and pedals!

how many hours approximately have you been driving GPL?

Ahaaaa.,there it is! I never , EVER switched on any of the driving aids,
as I wanted to learn to handle the car in the state that I would be racing
it later.
I do  app. 70-30& time  in the GP vs the F3 trainer.

hehe,I know ......I started out in the GP car,and after feeling the
response
of the engine after i touch the throttle the first time in the***pit
I was too scared to do anything else than veery slow
and gentle laps.
Then I grew overconfident and started crashing,
after which I quickly went back to slow careful laps.
I also started doing some more time in the F3 trainer.

I can't really say...I cot the demo maybe 6 weeks ago,and the game
2 weeks ago.Managed about 1-2 hrs every three days (+ some 7-hour night
shifts.....)
One answer might be that i have sent too much time in the lotus instead of
the coventry,
which I have heard latley to be the easiest one.

Ok, I'm impressed.  I couldn't get in the top 10 until I had the game for a
YEAR...  You're *already* ahead of me...
