Unless you are running at least a PII 300Mhz with VooDoo 2 card you
won't do GPL justice. You can run a bit slower machine but you'll
only get acceptable frame rates when running by yourself or maybe with
a couple other people. I have a 450 with Voodoo 2 and it still drops
down to 15 fps when I have 10 or more players in a race with me.
Can't wait till we get up to 800 Mhz and higher as maybe then we can
really keep this great game at 36 fps no matter how many people are
racing.

I have an AMD233 (running 250MHz at 83MHz-bus) and got a voodoo-2
about 1 month ago (BIG difference from voodoo-1). I saw frame-rates
-triple- (Red-Baron2 for instance) compared to the voodoo-1.
GPL is pretty pretty decent with this setup, considering the CPU.
Ofline racing with 6 to 12 (more?) is pretty good. Things slow down
when I go by the pits, or get near more than 2 A/I cars. Otherwise
it's 36fps (practice-mode is almost always 36fps, even with many
details on). Many details are "off" during races.
A Voodoo-2 would -really- speed things up for you. They're less
expensive now too. Otherwise it's pretty tough to drive (much less
control) GPL cars at frame-rates less than 36fps.
A PII-450 (and voodoo-2) still has a tough time running GPL at
full-blown detail (heck, even GP2 still lags a -tiny- bit).
