just bought GPL - can't i...

For some reason, setting brakes/gas on the same axis is very
difficult for me too.  After calibrating, I leave the throttle at 1/2,
select the 'throttle' setting, and move the throttle forward.  Then I
return it to 1/2, select brakes, and move it back.  If I am lucky,
the throttle setting's up arrow does not dissapear and the down
arrow appears next to brakes.  BUT then I go to the track and
3/4 of the time it doesn't work!  The entire throw of the throttle
is used for acceleration.  I go back to the joystick settings screen
and 'brakes' are magically un-assigned.  I repeat the process
over and over until I get lucky and it doesn't discard my settings.

All this would be no big deal if I didn't have to re-calibrate all the
time, but I do.  While GPL is loading, if I bump any keys or
buttons, I'm jumped straight to the controller setup screen when
loading is through, and all my controller settings (not just the
throttle) have mysteriously disappeared, and the calibration
is forgotten.  I can't just re-calibrate it, either.  First I have to select
the generic driver, then re-select the GPL specific driver.  Only
then can I re-calibrate and go through the little throttle-mapping
ritual again.  It's a pain.
