Viper Racing - Impressions

Hi,
I downloaded the Viepr Racing demo last night.  So far it's a pretty
***ive little demo!  The graphics are nice, and I'am getting over 100
fps on my AMD K6-2 333 with Monster V2!  "bumping" the cars out of the
way on the sharp corner by the lake is fun!  The physics model seems
pretty good so far, trying to demolish your car (and opponents) as much
as possible is half the fun!  The sound is probably the best I've heard
in a racing sim in a long time.  Has anyone noticed that when your car
goes flying into the lake you hear a sound like someone whispering
"splash..." when you hit the water!  The demo should keep me ocupied
until I get my copy of GPL! :) I reserved it this morning, they said it
shipped today and that they should have it in next week. (I'am hoping it
will be tomorrow)

Later,
John

Hi John,

I found the "sense of speed" to be very poor.  My P2/333 64MB
Monster1 card is getting 27+ fps.  What turned me off was
going 100mph only feels like 50mph :"(

What "sense of speed" do you get at 100 fps?

Jason.

BIG CORRECTION! sorry everyone!  when I was playing the game I thought it
had a frame counter, so I must have read something on the screen and
mistaken it as a frame counter! :) (happens all the time when you are
visually impaired!)  Anyway, I did the benchmark and I'am getting around
50-60 fps.  I'll probably run it a bit longer later to check again and
get more accurate numbers.  I also discovered the horn ball earlier
today! (it's a riot!).  I find the sence of speed to be quite far off.
When I first ran it, it sort of reminded me of a go kart! :) it is fun
though and the physics model does seem to be on the right track, I think
they just have to make the pavement appear to move a little faster!  With
GPL and VR it looks like arcade and sim racers both have something to
cheer about this fall.

Whew, it wasn't just me thinking the pavement moved slower
than ....

Ciao
