I downloaded the patch from an unnamed popular CPR site last night. I have
mixed feelings about it. The steering fix makes it all worth while to me
though. Now I find I can steer where I want to go. The null zone adjustment
and improved speed sensitive and non linear setting almost make this a new
game.
I ran a short race at Milwaukee and there was not one crash of the AI cars in
the whole race(20%) Between me being able to now steer where I want and
an improvement in the AI, I was able to stay out of trouble with other cars
(didn't stop me from spinning out because of a crappy setup though)
Now negative points.
The frame rate improvement.........with my 2d only setup,166mhz,and
32mb ram, I did not see any improvements with the same graphic settings as
before, maybe with 3d there is an improvement. Oh well gotta wait until next
month for that acquisition(post Christmas poverty)! There is now a selection
to turn off the textures, and with them turned off there is a 10fps increase,
but it looks horrible. Pink walls and weird sky and the building colours
uggh!! Why the heck they didn't put a turn grass and track textures off only
selection is a mystery to me, works great for me in Nascar2 and ICR2. I find
the 2d track texture looks like crap...I hope it improves with my 3d card next
month.
The brightness control helps you see cars ahead of you now, but to see them
at any distance I find I had to go to 100% brightness. This makes the AI
cars look like ghost cars with light grey tires and luminescent bodies.
whoooo spooky!
I might be doing something wrong but now it seems you leave the pit under
your own control, but entering the pits is still on autopilot. I want to do
it
myself dammit.
There are probably many more little things I am missing but oh well the
control problem fix is great so I am pretty happy with the patch.
