GPL must have been the result of inspiration after watching this film. I've
seen the film years ago , but was never really taken by the events in it.
Now , after racing on GPL for over a year , its weird to have seen the film
again on Saturday p.m.

Is there any upgrade around to allow Monza to run the combined new circuit &
old high banked course ? Did that really occur in the mid 60's ?

Someone i think is working on that Ian.

The banking wasn't used for GP cars after 1961, the cars just got too fast for
the banking and it was too unsafe

Pretty sure Papy has said that the movie was used, not only for inspiration, but
also helped in recreating scenery, etc., that is no longer in existence.

It was deemed unsafe well before 1961, SK!

That yellow Armco, and the famous bridge, look amazingly similar, don't
they?

Does anyone know of a web site with photos of the actors on the set of Grand
Prix?  I want to replace some of the GPL drivers with Sarti, Stoddard, and
Aron, but I cannot find any pictures of actor Brian Bedford who portrayed Scott
Stoddard.  Thanks.

1961 was the last time that the Monza banking was used. At this time, F1
cars were not 3 litre engined machines. These beasts never ran there at all.

Frankenheimer put the banking into the film for dramatic effect.

Oh, for sure.  Sports cars and non-F1 cars used it for many years beyond
1961.
