It looks substantially better yet suffers no FPS issues on my system.
The rain and reflections are striking in particular.
The AI is excellent.
It's stable.

Think of the old USA advertising slogan...
New and Improved.

With luck, this one will work. With more luck, it might actually work
out of the box rather than when version 1.128564 of the patch is released.
Don't go near any "German only" release!
It's easier :) Straight away I thought of TOCA RD 3.
No aids, yet its damn near impossible to lock the brakes, can push the
throttle really hard to the floor while come out of a tight corner and not
spin, can brake and turn in far to late and still make the corners :(

I am loving the GTR2 demo so far. With the files being un-encrypted,
it has been opened up so that all 6 of the demo cars are now drivable
(with an exe patch). Also, all of the GTL tracks are working perfectly
with the demo, so I now have a quite complete product, while the retail
game will not be available until at least September! The only thing
missing is multi-player - which isn't too bad for me, as I am still
stuck on dial-up 56k.
If you like GTL, you'll like GTR2. If you hate GTL, you'll likely feel
the same way about GTR2, as the underlining game engines are very
similar. This is, of course, evident by the fact that GTR2 cars can be
run in GTL, and GTL tracks can be run in GTR2. I haven't tried running
the GTL cars in GTR2, as I guess there'd really be no point to that!

I ran sim mode briefly in the Lambo and noticed an unusually high stick
factor, particularly out back, but I think it may be partly due to the stock
setup.
What are the 6 additional demo cars, and where might I find the exe patch?
Forgive me for not looking myself, but I have very little free time. In
fact, I probably won't be able to play the demo again (hacked or not) for
awhile, but when I do find a few minutes, I'd love to be able to quickly
gain access to a few extra cars.

Realism->Difficulty set this to simulation

In GTR2, when I start to slide, I can correct it, despite having gotten
out of shape.

If you have GTL, you can run all add-on tracks (non GTL original
tracks) very easily in GTR2 demo. Simply copy the contents of your
locations\shared directory from GTL into GTR2. Then copy your tracks
over to GTR2. The original GTL tracks can be made to work also, but
I'll refer you once again to the RSC forums for more information on
that.
Let me know if you need help.
I appreciate the place, but wandering around there is like wading through
molassas.

Well based on some forum posts, if the real car has Traction Control
and ABS, then those assists will be on for the game car regardless
of the player's settings.
What I noticed is that you can't lock up the brakes, but you can
spin the cars, and you can recover much better than you could in GTR.
Not having driven a real GTR car, I don't know which is more realistic,
but there have been a lot of videos made by Tiff of Top Gear / 5th Gear
power sliding in just about every race car made, including a Ferrari
F1 race car.
