Cheap 3Dfx card??

by Daniel Amsle » Wed, 11 Feb 1998 04:00:00

Wondering if anyone here has any opinions regarding a new cheap 3Dfx
card I found in a local computer store, it's name escapes me (other than
starting with a J) but it had 6MB of memory and it said 3DFx chipset
(Dunno if it said voodoo rush chipset, the box was pretty obscured).
Does anyone have any info? It was selling for $180 + taxes CDN a major
improvement over the Diamond Monster's $280 + taxes!

(Of course the next question I have is is it worth spending the money
when all I have is a Pentium 100?)

it depends on which games you're intending to play ... some will stay play
well on a P100 (w/a 3dfx card) , but games like Quake 2, Jedi Knight will
likely be unplayable regardless. This is just a suggestion: get a new cpu &
mb , you can get a P233MMX & TX mb for around $275

There is going to be a flood of used Voodoo1 cards when the Voodoo2
cards are released.

I have the Flash 3D card with voodoo 3dfx chipset, 99 pounds here in UK,
must be about 160 US$. Works really well.

Good Luck

Jaton card I think.  Didn't do so well in article I read.  I bought a
Orchid Rioteous for $99 from www.onsale.com.  I think Monsters can be
had for $150.  The best of the Voodoo 1's, the Canopus Pure 3D, with
TV out is $180 directly from Canopus.

If it had 6mb and was 180 it was no doubt a VooDoo Rush card.  Would not
advise you to buy it.The "cheapest" 3dfx board 3d only board is the
Flash3d.  They work just fine...

YES....it is worth it.
