Your soundcard only supports A3D1.0 and is the original Vortex design,
hence the relatively high CPU usage. I doubt anyone with a Vortex2
card will get the same benefit. Did you try turning off 3D sound (if
its an option)?

I felt like I should be dropping quarters into my computer when I
played it.

To each his own I guess! I personally find F1 2000 to be MUCH more realistic
than F1RS or MGPRS2 could ever dream to be.

When I installed F12000, it didn't give me the option to enable A3D
sound... the option is greyed out.
Anyway, I found an INI fiole and set it on in there, but I took a big
frame rate hit... i mean serious lag... slideshow almost.
But it DID sound better...
anyone else have any solutions for using A3D sound in F1-2000... or is
it just asking too much from this game... We've already lost the
mirrors... SIGH

I'm using Diamond's MX300 drivers, not the refernce drivers from A3D.
The Diamond Driver I have installed are the "latest" from Diamond, which
really aren't that current since S3 bought Diamond and screwed up
support, IMO.
May I'll try the reference drivers, as I'm pretty sure the Diamond
drivers I have installed do not have DX7 support (they're DX6 i think).
Let me know if turning off A3D sound helped your frame rate... cause if
it does NOT help you, then maybe I have a driver problem with my MX300.

Just run F1 2000 setup, and the check box is at the bottom right had
side of the screen. You should be able to enable and disable it at
will.

With the old Diamond drivers, I experienced serious lag in F1-2000, but
it DID sound a lot better.
I'm gonna try the new drivers tonight, and then re-install the game to
see if the A3D option is enabled in the setup.

Look in your F1-2000 directory... there is an INI file that has a
number of options in it... look for a line with reads "A3D=0" and
change it to "A3D=1".... thats seems to enable A3D sound.

Copy the driver folder from the install CD (or download the latest
reference drivers and unzip them) to a directory on your hard drive.
Load the AU30MMED.INF file in WordPad or Notepad. Navigate down to
this section of the file: [AspenOverides.Addreg].
Remove the semi-colon from the line
;HKR,Config,DisableSBFM,1,1
so that it reads
HKR,Config,DisableSBFM,1,1
Good luck, and let me know how you make out.
