GP2 : Frame rate problem

by Nick Jense » Sun, 23 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Hi !

I just myself a new dream machine , P200 MMX . and rushed home
to play GP2. everythings working fine , all graphics turned on and still
running 24+ frames. Then things start to get Weird !!, every now and then
the game allmost completely stops for 2 seconds or so, the frames getting
VERY jerky, then continues like nothing happened (except I usually ends up
in
the gravel)

Has any one experienced the same kind of problem ....???

Help needed

I get the same situation with IndycarII for windows 95, and a little bit
with Nascar1 under windows 95.  With GP2, I always shutdown windows and
start dos.  I don't have that trouble when I do this.  My computer is a
P100 w/32meg SDRAM and the 4meg ATI Graphics Xpression +PC2TV.  I
haven't tried the TV feature yet.  Steve

My guess is you're running GP2 under Windoze 95, am I right?
If you've got DOS, run it from there.
If you want to start it from Windoze, try this :
(Some of the namings I use for menu's, buttons, etc, might be slightly
different from the correct ones, but I'm using the Dutch W95-version,
so I don't have the English namings.)
1- right-click on the task-bar
2- choose the tab "Startmenu programs" (it might be called a bit
different in English, I'm using the Dutch version)
3- choose "Advanced"
4- In the left frame, go to the folder that has the GP2-link in it (this
will then show in the right frame).
5- Right-click on the GP2-link and select "properties".
6- Select the tab "Program" and then the button "Advanced".
7- Select the checkbox "MSDOS mode" (third from top).
Deselect the checkbox "Warn before swapping to DOS-mode". (otherwise y=
ou
will get a Warning-window before GP2 is started)
Select the radiobutton "Use current MS-DOS configuration".
8- Select the OK buttons you encounter and close the Explorer
(if you wonder about how you got to the explorer, almost everything
gets you there : "Startmenu programs", "My/this Computer", "Trashcan"=
,
etc. but only in slightly different modes.)

=46rom now on Windoze will be ended as soon as you start GP2, so it won't=
 be in
the way of PC-performance. When you quit GP2, Windoze will start itself a=
gain.

Oh, and BTW : This has nothing to do with GP2 as is.
              It's purely a Windoze 95 thing. This Win95 timing-shit happ=
ens to
              any program.

Hope this helps,

Wow...P200, P100, you guys are lucky/rich.....I am still humping a P60.
Why 'spoil' your potencial performance with GP2/Nascar etc. by dragging
an anchor...W95. Go DOS. Improve your power to weight ratio, have fun.

GP2 : Frame rate problem

Whoa! 24+fps What graphics card is this? My 200MMX with 3D Blaster is
comfortable at about 18-19 fps with some stuff off in the mirrors at
most circuits. I thought that maybe graphics cards wouldn't make a
difference in GP2. Could any P200 users kindly inform what kind of fps
you're getting. I am using the f22 vesa fix utility for the Verite chips
as well.

Stanley, I'm getting 25.6+ with everything turned on but clouds
on mine! I'm using and STB 128 Lightspeed and have the MB over-clocked
to 75mhz on the bus to end up with 225 mhz. I haven't bothered to try
going faster with the bus.

Suggestion: are you running under Win95? In that case it might be that your
screensaver gets into action or something...

GP2 : Frame rate problem

If you in a "graphics' hungry enviroment, i.e. Monico w/ full detail on
and cars in front of you
even a p200 will ***easily with GP2. Make sure what ever the
estimated frame rate the menu tells you,
that you take it down manually 2 or 3 notches. If estimated framerate
tells you 25, manually click down
to 22 or 23. This makes a difference in the framerate speed.
Hope that helps.
