F12000 frame rate

by Coli » Thu, 30 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I am having a hard time figuring out why everyone is having such a shit fit
about the F1 2000 frame rate.
I have the retail version and I've run it on a PII 400 laptop with a ATI 8MB
cheapo graphics card and on my home PIII machine with a GeForce card.
On both machines once the detail is properly configured, the frame rate is
perfectly acceptable.  Both have a better frame rate than GPL.  Granted, in
a race with 22 cars, the frame rate slows up at the start, but it's the same
for every other racing sim I own.
Now, one thing I will mention is that I also tested the warez (shock horror)
version and the frame rate SUCKED.
This newsgroup is now littered with ways to improve the frame rate.  I tried
these on my home machine and they all did improve the frame rate a little.
However, out of the box the frame rate is, in my opinon, more than
acceptable.

For comparison, when GP2 came out I had a kick -ass machine for the time.
However, I had to turn the detail way down to get it to run.  Not to mention
GPL, which still has problems on many of today's fastest machines!!!!

Now if ISI would fix the AI we'd have a winner....

Just my 2 cents...

F12000 frame rate

I agree, I have no problems with the frame rate on my Athlon 500 with Voodoo
3000 with texture set to medium.
Funnily enough, I don't really have the problems with the AI that others
have. One of my main criticisms of other modern sims was that very few cars
crashed or blew up etc.
In (the real) F1 GPs it is pretty common for only half the cars (or less) to
finish the race
F12K is one of the first to model this reasonably accurately.
I don't have the AI cars crashing into me, and I can keep up with them on
the straight.
My biggest problem is the FF bug, i.e. with FF switched on any collision in
the game causes a crash back to the desktop. This surely must be the first
thing they should fix.

Iain,

I had the same experience, but it's solved now. I recall you have a
Guillemot Ferrari FF wheel too eh?

Go back to the good old original drivers that shipped with the wheel and
gone are your problems with crashing back to the desktop! :)

My drivers are from 7-9-99 and work perfectly.

I agree, I have only a low end P11 with a v3 2000 and the graphics are just
about acceptable
its the A1 that is definately the big flaw here. The more I play the game
the more I like it, just
hope the A1 can be brought up to scratch.

F12000 frame rate

After an Initial Shock of having my Nice New Athlon700/voodoo3500
Game Annihalator made instantly obsolete ! I turned down the graphics and
after a few hours of trial and error Tweaking.
consider this game has some potential to be a good game. BUT! needs some
serious work to be done in the Frame rate department.
I think a real look at a OpenGL Patch, that alone is what saved GPL
and it may save F12000. but its not likely that they will do that
they are pushing  d3d concept down our throats whether the Frame rate bites
it or not.
Hopefully the next generation of video Cards will cope better with this sim.

Well done, it works! Replace the new Ferrari drivers with the old ones, and
the crashing to desktop stops and I have FF!

This doesn't happen to me. In fact the only thing about the FF in
F1 2000 that I don't like is that it sucks :-)
