Frame Rate solution??

by Greg and Gill Spar » Mon, 12 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I like many others have had trouble with low frame rates since installing
Patch 1.1 in GPL
But low frame rates are a symptom of a more serious problem: the game feels
WRONG - sluggish like the tyres are running in treacle. Previous experience
with low frame rates have not FELT this way.

I have now got the game feeling right but the frame rate is still only 30
FPS at best BUT note this - even if I turn off everything it DOES NOT
improve over 30 fps. Its like there is a limit in 1.1 _on my machine_ that
says "thou shalt not go over 30 fps". But the game feels right and thats
important.

What did I do?? I went to the VROC 1.1FAQ and followed the instructions
under the VooDoo2 solution for poor frame rates and it worked!!

Hope this helps some with similar trouble

My machine: PII 266 96MB RAM, Voodoo2 (Monster Diamond 3DII) running 2.56
Glide drivers

I agree that it is not just frame rates.  In fact, I don't think the actual
rates have dropped on my set-up, by the molasses/treacle effect comes up way
too often.

Marc.

Sad to report that while there is significant improvement the treacle effect
appears intermittently still, and on one server was present continuously :(.

I am also getting offline treacle - any others with this too??

Just shooting in the dark, but you may want to play with the "sync
buffer swaps with the monitor refresh rate" option on your video card.
