Best OS for GPL, F1C, F12K2 with mods?

I am trying to put together a computer for GPL- and F1-with-mods, on a
very limited budget. I've seen great advice on hardware from the group.
(Thanks, all!) My problem is deciding whether to go with Win98SE or
Win2K. I already have licenses for those two and can't afford XP at this
time. Maybe later. I'd guess Win2K would be better. Any thoughts? TIA

Proposed system:
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo
AMD 2400
2X256 PC 2700 DDR RAM
Radeon 9600

Depending on what other apps you'll be running in your system, 98 is
considered the fastest "***" system out there.
For stability in other apps besides ***, then Win2K is the way to go.
Some games dont work so well in Win2K
because of driver incompatibilities. I have no idea what works for 2000.
WinXP runs my GPL and F1-2001 really well.
Since 2000 is similar to XP, it may work for you.

GPL works fine in Win2K so if it's the only old game you're going to be
running then Win2K is a much better choice than Win98.

I agree. I used to dual boot Win98SE/Win2k, and found I rarely used Win98.

It is /slightly/ faster, and 3dfx cards are much easier to set up, but now
I only use Win2k with an nVidia card (gpl running OpenGL). It runs F1 2002
with the GTR mod fine too.
