Well, according to EA, V8 Challenge has been complete for some time
but the holdup is due to licensing problems.  Apparently each racing
team has to give it's approval for a license unlike F1 where only a
FIA license is required.  The problem is that Codemasters V8 sim' has
some exclusive licensing and EA are trying to get around it.  I think
it was Mark Skaife who has signed a deal with Codemasters.  The rep' I
spoke to seemed fairly sure that the game would be released late in
March and he was also quite e***d about the game.  He had a final
'gold' copy of the game in his posession but unfortunately he didn't
get time to show me it in action. (damn, damn!)

Dissapointing. Was hoping to get my hands on this title today.

Cheers,
Rod.

Yeah, sure is.  Honestly, I don't know what to expect with this game.  I
really wouldn't expect a games company to put much effort into a game with
such a small market potential...

But it wasn't a re-invention of the wheel since they were using the
STCC engine. Possibly going to do several generations similar to
the way F1-2001 has evolved.

Cheers,
Rod.

I dont honestly know what the expect with the EA V8 Challenge... In all
honesty Codemasters effort looks better to me, based on what limited info
and screenshots there are on both the games. I do however hope for our sakes
they are both worth the wait.

Matt.

Yea, if it' like STCC2 then I would just save my money. STCC2 is ok, but the
physics engine is pretty simple and the AI is crap, nice graphics though.

I think that to a great degree it's market share would be related to
how good it is. Like most sims. When I first heard about GPL I thought
"Big deal - who wants to drive those old heaps anyway". The rest is
history! I'd say that on first impressions that most people would prefer
the idea of modern V8 race cars on F1 type tracks compared to the GPL
concept. Imagine when the talented people of GPL, say, put their talents
to work on tracks, cars etc. Mind boggling! All the Yank cars, BMWs,
Jags, etc. Would be Awesome!

Does anyone know what the max online players is promised to be with
this sim?

As an Australian, to me the thrill will be the tracks. I have been
fortuante enough to race on the majority of Australian track (unlike
the GP tracks around the world, and only formula Vee )  at least I
will  be now able to feel for myself how close these software
developers model the "feel" of a race track, not to mention the
subtulties that only driving them can produce. Also it will give the
Aussies some home grown tracks to identify with, other than Melbourne
GP circuit which is only a four day a year event and tighly restricted
on access.

Point taken on a limited market, lets hope if its good its a test
market for many other home grown series titles.

cheers

Should be an interesting project ... let's hope this isn't as bad a
"retail-failure" as GPL was! ;o)
