GPL: Monster2 DX6 drivers

I got the new "experimental" drivers from 3dfx yesterday for my spankin
new Voodoo board (Monster 2).  I installed them and here is the results:

+ my frame rate increased by 25-100% -- my 166 used to get about
12-14frames in the Parabolica, now I get upwards of 30fps.

+ the sound is totally hosed.  it modulates from high volume to low volume
constantly.  Going faster or slower depending on engine revs.

Needless to say, I removed the drivers.  The extra frames didn't matter
compared to the sound.

Interesting... considering that neither the drivers nor DX6 or DX6.1
make any changes to the audio side of things at all (Both versions
still use the original DX5 routines as DirectSound is not due to be
updated until DX7 at the earliest!)

The only problems reported here have been the loss of textures in CM
Rally which would appear to be an internal program problem and not
something directly attributed to the drivers themselves.

No loss of or change of sound has been found in GPL just the increase
of frame rates somewhere in the same region as you found yourself.
What soundcard do you have?

I had problems with the new drivers too, in GPL the mouse pointer now
left trails in the menus which I was able to ignore in order to test for a
framerate improvement, but after 15-20 minutes of an online race GPL, froze
solid in the middle of a race for the first time ever with the full version.

I retreated to the older version of the reference drivers and was able
to race without mouse or freezeup problems for the rest of the night.

So there does indeed seem to be a few problems with the new drivers and
GPL at least for some of us. I'll stay with the older driver for now.

Different problems for me.  The side panels (where the gearshift lever is)
would flash on and off every so often - no other graphics glitches that I
saw, but after a few minutes of that I had to stop and return to the
Creative drivers from a few days ago (based on the last set of refference
drivers) - seemed to cure it for me.
