Dumb (?) GPL / FF Questions

by e.. » Thu, 09 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I just picked up a copy of GPL and have been practicing.  I hope to be
racing some of you online soon (well, within a year or so :)

I also picked up a MS FF wheel, and I have a few questions about FF in
GPL.  I am as new to FF as I am to GPL, so these may have been covered
before - if so, please point me to the proper resource (I've read
Alison Hine's info as well as a few others).

So far, the FF wheel works great - I can feel the resistance of the
wheels when driving, I can feel the wheel going nuts when things go
out of control, but if I drive along a straight (Watkins Glen) and
hang two tires off the edge of the track, so they are obviously
bumping on the ground and the driver's hands are jittering, I can't
feel it in the wheel (I expected it would feel like 'driving by
Braille' like on the freeway.)  If I get all four wheels off the
track, I can feel the bumping in the wheel.

Is this how it should work, or do I need to experiment further?  What
should I be looking for as far as functionality in playing with the FF
settings in core.ini?  I just need to get some idea of what is
available in the game as far as what forces the game is capable of
delivering.

My core.ini settings are as follows:

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1
force_feedback_damping = 30.000000
force_feedback_latency = 0.03500
max_steering_torque = 225.000000

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

        Why wait so long to race online? Being new and/or slow can't be a
reason.  Give it a shot, you'll be sup prized at your average finishing
position.
