Nascar and Win95?

I just wanted opinions on how Nascar Racing runs
in win95. I am considering uprading but if it doesn't
run Nascar in SVGA as fast as it does in DOS now I
won't upgrade. Any opinions are appreciated.
Thanx!

runs just like under good old DOS - just get used to the machine
rebooting itself between playing games and running Windows.

I noticed that my copy of Indyca suddenly lost use of the joystick
for the menus, while everything else still works fine (I can still
steer and brake with the stick, but the menus are all keyboard now)
Nascar didn't have that problem.

On what kind of system??  Cpu, ram etc??  Does it run BETTER in Win95
than in DOS??

Well, in low-res it runs just like it did in DOS.  Seems to be ok.  Dunno
about any performance increase though...

IMHO There is NO way it could run BETTER under Win95. Win95 simply uses
Dos mode to run games like this, letting you set up an individual autoexec
and config (like OS/2 has always done). If you have an exceptional setting
for Nascar autoexec and config and use the same settings in Win95, they
should play the same. Unless I'm mistaken, Win95 still has not gotten rid
of the stupid 640k barrier.

I can't tell the difference be*** DOS and Win 95 for speed comparison.  I
am using a 100MHZ Pentium with 20MB of memory.

If you take the default settings this will happen.  Before I go into
my PIF settings, I must say that I think it runs better in MS-DOS
mode...I find the joystick calibration isn't all that great (the car
is _really_  twitchy).  I can't decide whether or not the frame rate
is worse or not.

I am using a DX4/100, 16MB, Mach64 graphics (PCI), running off the HD.
I tried both practice and  the beginning of a race at Talledega in
640x480 mode.

Hope this helps.

MY PIF settings:
(items marked with ** are ones I changed from the defaults):

"program", "advanced":
** -- prevent ms-dos programs from detecting windows is checked
-- suggest ms-dos mode as necessary checked
** -- ms-dos mode is _unchecked_

"program"
cmd line:  <path>\nascar.exe [-h]
working:  <path>
run: normal window

"font"
both font types, auto size

"memory"
all auto
** protected mode box checked
uses HMA box checked

"screen"
all defaults
usage: full screen or window, doesn't matter (you'll end up with a
full screen session anyway)

"misc"
defaults, except:
**allow screen saver unchecked

I found that it did not run at all.  I was running on one of the
last BETA versions prior to commercial release.  The problem
was not being able to get the audio to function properly.
More than likely, it was me and not 95.  But it ran fine when
I chose to restart in the DOS mode.  In the DOS mode it
appears to run exactly the same as it did prior to WIN 95.

If you are planning on going WIN 95, remember you can
always restart in the DOS mode any time and the game will
run fine.

My configuration is a P-60, 2X CD-ROM, SVGA, Soundblaster
compatable (well mostly compatable) card and 24MB RAM.

Good Luck

I am running Nascar under win95 and have no problems at all.  What you should
do is create a shortcut to the executable, right click it, and choose
properties.  Under the program tab, you can add the "-h" switch if you plan
to run in SVGA.  Hit the ADVANCED button and check the MS-DOS mode box. Select
"specify a new MS-DOS configuration", and put whatever drivers and junk you
need into the config.sys and autoexec.bat boxes.

Good luck,
Brian
