Try setting mirror detail to full. You could also try setting the resolution
to 640x480 & see if it still does it.

I had a similar prob while running Zonealarm with GPL, i could join a server
and race for as long as i wanted, but as soon as i esc to return to the
menu's i would get a black screen and my pc would need a hard reboot. I had
to turn off zonealarm to race on vroc, hope this helps.

Aha! That could very well be the answer, as I use Zonealarm too. I think I
might email them, if turning Zonealarm fixes my problem too. Thanks, I'll
try that out!
