Microsoft precision racing wheel problem

My wheel doesn't work anymore : Windows 98 says it is not connected.

I think the problem came with Rally Trophy Demo as I install DirectX 8.
The wheel never worked with RT (and I can tell you RT is not a fine game to
play with a keyboard ;-) ).
The most annoying thing is that the steering and pedals still work fine
under GPL but no buttons.

I read some information about direct on the Sidewinder Web Site, but I
didn't manage to sort it out.
Did somebody get the same problems and get thru it?
How can I uninstall DirectX8 and come back to Direct X7?
Is there any chance for me to make DirectX8 AND my wheel work nicely
together?

I can't really help with your problem except to let you know that I use a
MSPW wheel with RT and DirectX 8.

haven't installed CMR2 or CMR2 demo recently have you? A google groups
search of r.a.s. will sort things out if that's the case.

Hi Alain,

CMR2 replaces one of your Windows system files (hid.dll) with its own
version. I've no idea why it does this. The new hid.dll won't work with a
Precision Racing Wheel, but if you copy the original hid.dll from your
Windows CD and overwrite CMR2's version you should be up and running again.
CMR2 will still work OK with the version from your CD.

My hid.dll is in C:\Windows\System folder, and it's write-protected whilst
in Windows. Boot to DOS to copy it over.

Cheers, hope that helps

Jim
