NR2003 wont load tracks

by GMpartsgu » Wed, 13 Jun 2007 06:41:15

It's been a few years since i've had time and the desire for some virtual
racing, but the bug is back.

I installed NR2003 yesterday, and the first problem came while trying to
install the 1.2.0.1 patch after restarting my PC. The patch starts to
install, then tells me it can't find the .dat files for a track, and quits
the install.

I wiped everything off the PC and did a fresh install, again.  Without the
patch, i fired up the sim, and had no problems with anything until it came
time to load a track. It would load a track, then immediately drop back to
the desktop. Trying to install the patch again just gave me the same results
as the first time, the patch claiming it can't find a certain track .dat.
Nice...

Some Googling and a stop at BHM didn't find the answer i needed. So, anyone
have an idea ?

 The comp isn't anything special:
 Intel 2.8c
 Asus P4P800 mobo
 Ati Radeon X800XT
 SB Audigy 2 ZS
 1 gig Corsair matched memory

I haven't plugged a wheel in yet, but imagine that can't be an issue, can
it ?
 Thanks for listening !

Where did you get the patch file from?

Odd problem.

I have the original from all my downloads on the "oh shit" 2'nd hard drive
i use in my computers. I also downloaded the one from BMS yesterday after
the first patch failed, but i got the same result.

The game dumping to desktop immediately after loading a track makes me
think i'll have to go play in the ATI control panel. The failure to patch
just makes me scratch my head.

I would try lowering sound acceleration one notch. Go to Run..type
DXDIAG..go to sound tab and lower one notch.

I forgot about that, good tip. Had to do that on my computer when I
installed the game oh so long ago.

Try running the patch from inside the NR2003 directory.

The advice was close enough to make me look where NR2003 was trying to
install.
On this computer, the primary drive is E instead of C.  That makes C my "oh
shit" drive, upon which Nr2003 was already installed ages ago.
Somehow the disc gave me the install option even though it saw the Papy
folder. And of course i'm so used to seeing C as the typical destination
that it didn't cross my mind until i went for the patch again. Re-installed
it on the correct drive and everything is running fine.
Thanks again Larry. I looked right past that one !
