daytona/n3 wont load

by Thomas a Dutr » Thu, 24 Feb 2000 04:00:00

I just got the Daytona cd from DIS, installed it, installed both N3 and NL
patches and the demo works fine but I still can't get the tracks to work in
the full version of N3 or NL.
I copied the the patched daytona Directories from the demo to the full
versions
"Cannot Load Complete Track Description"
thats what I get.
This is super fustrating. has anyone solved this problem.
HELP..

"Problem"?

It isn't a "problem" it is a simple matter of editing the all.cal
file properly.

Didn't I read somewhere that the track won't work in N3/NL by just
importing the track directly to N3/NL?  I think there's a patch (no,
not the patch from Papy) that allows you to import the track to N3/NL.
And if my memory serves, the patch is at http://www.racesimcentral.net/***world.com/

Oops!  Sim***world has a patch for night Daytona, but not for
importing day Daytona.  And I can't remember where that patch is.  Of
course, you can just download the day Daytona track itself, if someone
can point out where that is.

Think I need to replace my memory in my head.  ;)

Huh... Oh shit I must be doing something wrong because Daytona
installed just fine into N3. Online and offline works just great. There
is nothing to import. You just put the files into the tracks directory
where they should go and edit the all.cal file with the following
changes:

31 12 25 0 0 DAYTONA Daytona_500 Daytona_500 200 event1.tga biglogo1.tga
32 12 99 0 0 XXXXXXXX

You have to be sure to change that last line otherwise it will get all
screwed up.

I did this and it still gives me the "Cannot Load Complete Track
Description" message.  Does it only work in season mode?  Please, someone
help.

No that fix is for stand alone races as well.  Check this please.
look in the track directory and make sure you have all the setup files.
they should be files that end with .stg and .st1 (that is the # one)
there should be:
ace, fast, easy, qualify that end with stg.  also race.st1 and
default.st1.
if those files are not in there, copy them from the talledega folder
and that might get you started.
good luck

Do you have a C:\Papyrus\Nascar3\Tracks\Daytona directory? That directory
should have 27 objects and be 8.11MB in size.

I must have gotten confused with the legality of importing the Daytona
track into N3/NL vs. the actual work of importing the track, with so
many posts debating the legality of this and that over the Daytona
track.  <g>

Legality? It was not even an issue for me. Papy claimed all the
tracks would be in N3 anyway. They knew damn well what we
would do with the Daytona track demo otherwise they would
have changed the formatting of the track.

I would suggest just having fun with the track and not worry
about that meaningless other legal bullshit.

IMHO :-)

True, which is why my conscience has already stopped talking to me.
