Nascar Racing 1 (Newbie Question)

Hi all

I've just gone out and purchased Nascar Racing 1 at a budget price (I'm new
to auto simulations) but the car is very hard to control. I haven't altered
the set-ups in any way.
Is it possible to make the game easier to control. (Not very good games!)

Paul, are you using a steering device, the keyboard or a joystick??
Nascar 1 is a very driveable game with one of the steering wheels,
practically undriveable using the keyboard or even a joystick in my
opinion.  If you don't have a wheel, get one if you are serious about
racing sims.  And also if you have a fast machine you might consider
Nascar Racing 2.

I'll offer some general help; others on the group will probably also
chime in with good ideas...

You make no mention of what hardware you have, but some key points:
Use a reasonable joystick or wheel (el-cheapo $4.99 joysticks will
cause the car to be twitchier than usual)
Turn off enough graphics to get the frame rate high enough that you
can tell what's going on before it's too late.
And something that sounds stupid, but really isn't: Slow Down! At
least until you've got a good feel for things. The best way to
approach a new track is to gradually build your speed and work up to
the limit, rather than start too fast, and try to work down to the
limit.

Also, you probably want to get the patches for the program, and the
Hawaii executable, for a physics change that will make the car setups
more stable over the long run.

I am using the Nascar 1 CD-ROM version right out of the box. Do I need
to patch the version that came in this game, and if so, where can I get
them?  Also, the Hawaii executable (where is this available?) is
recommended for single player mode offline?

If I sound like a ranting madman, it's probably because of my insanity.

Who are you and who am I?
You say we know the reason why
Some are born, some men die
Beneath one infinite sky.
There'll be war, there'll be peace
But anything, one day, will cease,
All the iron turned to rust,
All the proud men turned to dust.

It depends on what CD you've got (we sometimes slipstream patched
versions into manufacturing when we have to remaster...) The answer is
most probably "yes" though.

I believe the Hawaii .exe is available on Sierra's web site: probably
somewhere in:
