Talladega Question

Had the pleasure of watching the Talladega NASCAR race on Eurosport last
night, the one where Dale is taken out one lap from the finish by
Morgan Shepherd.

Whenever I drive at T. if I go into the tri-oval alongside another car
on tires older than 2-3 laps, I am in the wall or on the grass. I've
always felt there is only one line through the tri-oval but having
seen the tv coverage I'm wondering about NASCAR's accuracy in this.
Several times I noticed cars two and three a*** through there this
year and drivers seemed to have a lot more control in general than I
can find in the game.

Any comments? Has anybody managed to go through there as the filling in
a sandwich and stayed out of the wall? I should confess I have not
driven there much since v1.2, so does that have any effect?

The tri-oval is inaccurate.  It's way, way, WAY too tight.  I've begged
and pleaded with the folks at Papyrus to redesign it (and also straighten
the pit lane).  But with the track pack coming out, and Indycar 2.0 in the
works, they just don't have the time right now.  I guess we'll have to
wait for NASCAR 2.0 to have an accurate representation of Talladega.

It can be done.  With a r-plate on, I can dig for about 40 laps before
things get tricky.

If you stay in it, there's only one line to begin with.  Your position
going past the flagstand depends on how you lift going into the dogleg.
It's much like throwing a horseshoe.

Seat time my good man.  Seat time.  Pull off the restrictor plate and run
until you can control the car.  When you put the plate back on and run,
you'll find that you can 'dice with the boys' much better.  I've been in
the middle of a 3wide past the flagstand.  It can be done, but it does
tend to put more natural curl in your hair!

Try driving the Glen.  _That_ track will teach you what for!

The more you drive, the better you'll get.  I think the hardest thing to
get down is that you HAVE to learn to lift and when.  You'll lift the
least at Tally and that's why Tally is mostly car and leastly driver
skill.  Go run at Atlanta or Michigan to learn the basics of lift and
braking.  It's a dance.  It'll help you rock at Tally.  Glen will make
you want to take a bite outta your keyboard.  I personally can't wait to
get to The Point.  I'll need Lithium after I drive there! :)

gary
you cannot race three wide in the tri-oval at talladega.  i've only made
it through the tri-oval successfully with two wide which is a task in
itself.  if you are interested in multi-player racing send me an e-mail

and also do you have the thrustmaster formula T1 racing controls -
steering wheel and pedals.  If you want to be a real racer the controls
are a must, anything else is just playing games.

The only way I've been able to manage 2 thru the tri-oval is if I get
ALL the way down on the apron.
