Talladega AI Patch Question...

by John Wehm » Tue, 06 Aug 1996 04:00:00

The new patch is great...however, I didn't see much in the way of explaining
the changes, and I thought that it was just in the AI of the cars...however,
the track is run completely different now; ie, the "power" strip has shifted
from the back straight between turns 1/2 to the tri-oval.  On the straight, I
can barely get above 191, where as before, I could top 200+ (I know, there are
lots of people that can do much faster, but that's not the point :-) and now,
in the tri-oval, I always come up on turn 1 at 200+.  What was done to the
track to make that change?  And, is this supposed to come closer to the real
'Dega?

TIA,
John Wehman

Sounds like you had removed the restrictor plate and forgot to remove it
after adding the patch.

Talladega AI Patch Question...

Watched the daea race on saturday and yes, the announcers refered
several times to the tri-oval/front straight as the fastest part of
the track. When they did that I thought Huh, What? as I haven't had a
chance to try dega with the patch yet. Installed it but ran out of
time before could try it. If the announcers were correct then the
patch probably is more realistic,

Talladega AI Patch Question...

Edit the file TALADEGA.TXT, and change the first value in the line
SPDWY from a 1 to a 0.  This removes the restrictor plate.
Change the line RELS to a higher number around or above 100.

Talladega AI Patch Question...

John, it sounds to me like you have the wind blowing at your back down
the front stretch.  I installed the patch and have been using it quite a
bit and it does not change the way the human player's car drives.  The
patch only affects the AI.  Even though they did say the tri-oval was the
fastest I think that was a mistake because in car telemetry has ALWAYS shown
that the end of the back stretch is the fastest part of Daytona and Talladega.
Look at the weather conditions in your options menu and see what it is at.
My guess is that a high wind setting is pushing you down the front stretch
through the tri-oval and holding you back down the back stretch.  Hope this
helps.
