R.A.S.ers' Professions?

When I was 21 I finished school and started my own programming
company, with a friend of mine, with the funky sounding name
'R&A's Software Solutions' (R&A stood for Rick&Andre :)

At 23 I had to join the army, and I quit the company.. those tax forms
depressed me :-/

At 24 I started to work for a travelling company, arranging the IT for
them. 80 offices, hard work, sometimes I wonder where I found the time
to check RAS 10 times a day :)

at 29, half a year ago, I started to work for a Turkish touring
operator, again arranging the IT for them and building a website for
them.

Thinking about starting my own company again after this project is
done.

My goal allways was to buy my first Ferrari before I was 30 so I have
to hurry now.. still driving a Seat Arosa :-/

Andre,

Any hints for a wannabe programmer?  What language to start with?  What is
'in vogue' at the moment?

I'm not Andre, but what you should start with is not what is in vouge, but
what will give you good habits/good understanding of programming principles.

You should probably try to learn different languages as well, to get
some understanding of different viewpoints of programming. (Lisp for
the functional approach, C for the "assembler")

Which language is the right one depends on what you are doing, and it pays
off knowing strengths and weaknesses of the different languages.
All IMO of course, and I'm not even a programmer.

Assistant network administrator at a major US university.  I get to deal with
keeping the students on the network, and keeping them honest while they're ON
it...

Nope.  Heard about it, know people who've been there, never been inside the
place myself.  I should, though.  I've heard they have great music...
