Will Nascar 2002(N4) save your race like N3 did?
Or do you have to run 500 miles in one sitting?

500 miles in 1 sitting and it will never change until perhaps N5 comes out
but even then I doubt it.

By the sound of things Vinnie, there won't be a N5 but rather the next
title will be NR 2003.  At least that's what I read into their press
release.

DAve henrie that was the most pointless post in RAS History.

Pointless things aside....

I really think the time for Papy to introduce a save-game feature has
come...

I mean - in the "old days" offline [league] racing was all we had..  but
now - I really dont see the point anymore.   I really think the number of
offline leagues have dropped to a point where it would be smarter for Papy
to include a save-game (restart behind pace-car or whatever) and perhaps
some way of detecting a savegame in results or replay.

That way they'll satisfy the 1000's of gamers that cry out for a savegame vs
the 10's of simmers that still do offline leagues.

You technically don't HAVE to run 500 miles in one sitting.  Just hit pause.
Of course, you can't use your computer in the meantime...
But no, I don't think there's a savegame function.

Or they can run the game in a window and hit pause and minimize the window.
I always kinda thought a save game feature kind of defeats the purpose of a
500 mile race. I mean, if you aren't running 500 miles in one sitting, then
why not just run 5 100 miler races or 20 50 mile races?<G> That feature has
always has seemed like something for an arcade game to me ...

Well, that's *if* you're running in a resolution that allows it, and *if* you
have enough resources left to run other programs.  The savegame feature isn't a
deal-breaker for me.  I'm single, and don't have anyone else here who would
need my computer.  But I can understand why other WOULD need such a feature.
Besides, how many people can run a sim-race of 500 miles without hitting pause
to take a bio break, or answer the phone, or deal with a fussy child?

Considering that we don't get seat belts, bucket seats, a pit crew to egg us
on (or call us an idiot), g-forces or internal hemeraging from bouncing of
the walls too much, I feel some compensation is in order, namely save game
function.
Book
(Who remebers the super grip patch for F1GP and started a full season using
the patch just for giggles-savegame helped for those oopsies taking a corner
too quick ;)

Save game in N4 2002

NR 2002 was actually called N5 in the Asian Pacific release notes, and is
called that all through the document.

Makes you wonder when........and why they decided to change.

No biggie.

The difference is that in a 500 miler fuel and tire strategies are
very important, whereas running five 100 miler races they wouldn't
have as much effect on the race.

I complete agree with the posters who long for an in-race save
feature. I was a long-time fan of the series, starting with the
original DOS versions which if I remember correctly added the in-race
save in NASCAR 2. NASCAR 3 also had it. Then Papyrus brought the GPL
game engine to it's NASCAR series and dropped the in-race save in
NASCAR 4, which was released last year at this time. I was very
disappointed and it really turned me off the series. I was really
hoping that Papy would react to the many posts on Usenet and the
forums and add in-race saves in a patch, but no luck. The NR2002 demo
has a "Save" button on the race setup menu, but from what I can tell
this only saves your progress from qualifying, so we are still missing
what I think is a very vital feature.

Don't know if it's possible to do this yet actually; there isn't a 3d
physics engine racing sim out that can I don't believe?

I won't say the lack of a save game feature is a killer, but here at
least, SCGT and Nascar Heat and the EA F1 series have an advantage.  If you
don't have time to run a full race you can adjust fuel and tire wear to
still keep the simulation aspects true...With Heat however, you have one big
problem...you can't manage your in-race strategy.  If you pit for repairs
and the pace car is comming around, you can't leave the pits to catch up
with the pack before ducking in for more repairs.  Once you begin service in
Heat you are stranded until the Pit crew finishes.
The Original Nascar titles by Papyrus also had this problem also but a
patch to N2(I think!) upgraded the race strategy aspects and have been in
all further Papyrus Nascar titles.
Our current online DTM league is using a Nascar Heat Mod but the race
official adamnatly(sp?) opposes using the fuel and tire wear modifiers so we
have opted to use the 1x setting with shorter races than the standard
calendar file allows.
