GP3: Why I like it

by Bria » Sat, 29 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I have been reading all messages about GP3 and this is why I like it:

1. I am a notebook user most of the time. I can play Nascar 2, Nascar 99,
Nascar 3, GP2 and others with descente framerate. But, until GP3, no other
F1 sim where able to run just because 3D video is not common and even when
it has (mine has a Trident *** with D3D, but it is crap). GP3 runs great
with software 3D. Almost everything stays on all the time;

2. It is very similar to GP2, so the learning curve is small, not like GPL
(I run it on a desktop machine with P3, Voodoo, ..) that is very dificult to
master;

3. One day after the release of the game, we have already not one, but two
track editors available. What can we say about any Papyrus game? I can bet
that in less than a month we will have most seasons covered, with cars and
tracks.

But, the LAN is crap, this needs to be fixed ASAP, tried it yesterday with
two machines (single mode around 80~90% CPU usage) and it runs around 170%
all the time, this is unbelivable. Even GP2 with gp2lap runs better than
this. Let's pray that the past does not repeat itself, we never saw a patch
to GP2, but, if they release one to make LAN better, this game will have a
long life.
