RASCAR: Kansas fast setup?

by Jan Verschuere » Mon, 13 May 2002 03:41:25

Just had a bit of a practise at Kansas... I'm continually bouncing off the
rev limiter in 4th in traffic (as AI pulls away down the tri-oval). Car just
lacks top end using the fast set-up.

Ok, would be the same for anyone, but I'm a bit worried about reliability
issues. Perhaps Eldred can lengthen the gear a bit?

Sorry - didn't see this until just now.  It wouldn't have mattered anyway - the
server is 40 miles from home, I *couldn't* have changed the setup...

Did'nt matter anyway Eldred....   your server progressed to the second
event,  so we had to take command of Jasons 'Open Ras server' and use
that....   Sadly it couldnt cope with all uf us tho..  (Cant cope with the
17 drivers he has limited it for either...  13 drivers is max imho)

Anyway, please get your server sorted again and let us know if you need any
assisntace as we so dearly want your excellent server back :-)

Psst! please use "full pace lap" in the future. :-)

Think that should have read: "your server never progressed to the 2nd
event", which was a shame. Chicagoland had the now usual yellows, but did
provide some good green stints and drivers were real close (23 driver within
a second in qualifying).

On the "ras open server" 13 is indeed max... just like GPL on a 128Kb upload
cable connection for that matter.

What a race at Kansas though!! Even had green flag pitstops... read 'm and
weep gentlemen.

It didn't run the first one???  Good grief... :(

so we had to take command of Jasons 'Open Ras server' and use

Excellent?  Apparently not today...  I think someone or something just wants to
drive me crazy...

Why's that?

That happens occasionally, but I don't know why.  When I connected to the
server, the Launcher screen just kept switching the text line between the 2
races, but if never DID anything... :(

Sorry  Eldred, a typo by me...
As Jan correctly stated, it never progressed to the second event...
I have no idea what actually happend as we all (?) reverted back to the chat
room between session...

Anyway, I hope we can get this sorted for future events...   perhaps if
would also be possible for you to give a one or two of use boss/admin
privliges over it too - so we can get things sorted in case of crashes etc.
in the future...?

Avoid having the start aborted due to ppl. spinning as they try to get away
on a banked track... like we had at Chicagoland..        It's much safer
thats all.

Well it was very good but I eventually ended up weeping. Had fun trying to
work my way forward through the field, swapping places with Ed, and then a
f**ken screen freeze. I guess it looks kind of funny to see my car suddenly
drift off into the infield for no apparent reason. :-(  I quit after that.
During the Chicago race, the freezes only occurred during caution laps but
when it happened during the Kansas race I disconnected to avoid ruining
someone's race (almost ruined Brian's--sorry Brian).

No problem, Dave.

It WAS kinda funny watching you go thru the infield (what IS he
doing?)...  at least until I realised that you were coming back up
towards me...  ;)

Your screen freezes must be contagious, cause after you tagged me,
I started getting little screen stutters (.5 sec or less) going
into turns 1 & 3... not every time, but enough to irritate.

Was kinda cool running side by side for 2 laps - eh Dave? :-)
One the really nice things with the new physics in N2002 is that it's
possible to stay on the outside and still be able to keep up..... to a point
that is...  as you eventually got by at last... -  before I repassed you :-)

Such a shame about the freeze - you must get that sorted... What's your
system spacs again?

Hmm..since I didn't remember that happening before, I didn't think about it.
It seems that I ran an online race at Chicagoland with no problems, but I could
be wrong...

:-)

Yea, that's a lot of fun running side by side in the turns. I was forced to
the outside line on the last lap against Ginger at the Atlanta RASCAR race
last week, and luckily was able to just edge him out at the s/f line.

I'd love to get this sorted out, especially since the freezes have ruined my
results in five out of the 16 RASCAR races. They've ruined many, many other
races for me too.

P4 1600, XP, GF2Ti (have tried various drivers), 384 megs ram, AC97.

I think it's related to the spotter sounds, but even disabling streaming
sound hasn't ended the freezes. Others have these freezes and pauses, so
hopefully it's something Papyrus will sort out in the next patch.
