HELP Linksys DEAD?

by Morris Jone » Mon, 08 Jul 2002 05:30:06

Just got back from vacation and my linksys router seems to have died somehow
while gone?
Had both computer turned off and when I fired them back up, no internet or
network connection?
tried resetting router with the reset button and turning it off a few times,
still nothing? only a flashing yellow light above the #1 on the 100 marker.

I can bypass the router and the internet works on the main computer.

anyone have any ideas, what could have happened? any way to futher test it,
can't hit the setup page 192.168.1.1

Thanks,

Morris,

I had the same problem a few times. So I called tech support and must
of gotten a newbie. He told me that my router had died and that they would
replace it if I had my reciept. Naturally, I lost it months ago as the
router was nearly a year old at that point.  I unplugged the power for a few
minutes, then plugged it back it in.  Reset the router, but I head the
button in for a full min even after it reset. It started working just fine
after that.

Was the router or cable modem still plugged in?
I had a storm pass through here about a week ago, had the puter shut off but
my cable modem and router were still plugged in to regular outlet,
lightening hit close by, took out both my network card and my linksys
router. Guess I was lucky that was all it did.

Unplug the router for a minute or so.  I've had the same thing happen
before.

If you can't hit the setup page, it most likely is indeed dead.

Try holding that reset switch for 15 seconds.  That performs a hard reset,
which is different from the normal reset.

Morris, I had a similar stuation recently, I was away when a
thunder/lightning storm came thru, when I got home, my Linksys was dead just
as you descrbed, the wan port was apparently blown out. Even tho my router
was over a year old and technically out of warranty, Linksys recommened I
return it for evaluation, and my router was subsequently repaired and
returned for free!! Cost me shipping only, so I was a pretty happy
camper....if i ever need to, you can bet I'll buy from them again. Was about
a 10 day turn-around.
