Rally Trophy impossible to control

Sorry if this has been asked before, but why the hell is RT to freakin
hard to control? The RWD cars are just about impossible to keep from
spinning. I just tried the Abarth and I literally couldn't make a turn
without spinning. Is there a secret? What the hell am I doing wrong?

Rally Trophy impossible to control

Drive the Minicooper, most of the other cars are fishtailing tanks. I must
say I'm disappointed in this game after all the Euros posting here saying
that it is the GPL of rally games. I guess I had higher expectations. Frame
rates are sometimes fine and at other times stutters for no apparent reason.
Lifting off the gas pedal completely causes the wheel to disconnect which
means I plow into the corners more than I should. Plus this game causes my
PC to get an "invalid page fault" almost evertime I exit it. Now I kow why
they are trying to dump it for only $35.00 CAD at EB, most new games cost
almost double that. I think I will return it to EB. The blow settings for
the "input.ini" file may help you. You will find this file in the
"Data\Settings" folder.

Thanks Lane. I found those very settings last night in a message in the
forum at Jowood's site. I haven't tried them yet though. I must say that
so far I am a bit disappointed in it as well. Maybe if I could control
the damn car I would enjoy it more. Hopefully my GeForce 3 that will be
here today will help too :-)

Thanks for your help
Todd

I assume you have the v1.01 patch installed?

I don't find the rear wheel drive cars to be impossible to drive, although
the stratos is pretty damn hard :) I did the expert championship in the
stratos, and it did take a lot of practice.

The only advice I can really give you for the RWD cars is to start out in
novice and drive a rear wheel drive car (don't use a mini or anything), and
then move up to a RWD car in intermediate. Then by the time you hit expert
(where all the cars are rwd), you'll be used to how a RWD car sort of acts.

The steering is the least of your worries really.. it's the gas and the
break pedal that you have to be really cautious about. When I drive a FWD
car, like the Mini... I control the car, and throw it around as much as
possible. When I drive the Stratos, it is more incontrol of itself.. I just
baby it through corners :)

I agree, I find the Stratos a very interesting car, because it's very rare
that I'm 100% on the gas pedal when I race it.

There's a reason the Mini is such a legendary car. I'm sticking with it. :-)

If you can hang on to the Stratos you could win many on-line races.

Agreed, the mini is fun as hell to drive. Especially the Factory green one
that you unlock.

Driving the stratos in the Expert mode rally, I just made sure the front end
was pointing the right way, and never lost a single stage. But on about 2-3
of the stages, the stratos did get the best of me.

Ouch.  Minis are slooooow and I think the Lancia Fulva and Opel Kadett
are a million times easier to drive on the limit depending on the
characteristics of the course.  I'm fast everywhere with the Fulva and
it's imho the easiest car in the game to drive overall, but for some
reason I find the Kadett seems to work well on the high-speed Swiss
corners.

So far with a Microsoft Sidewinder wheel, no deadzone, and full
sensitivity, I'm finding every car to be a joy to drive, and the
detail of the driving model (in the patched version) to be easily on
par with GPL.  I had some problems with my pedals acting like on/off
switches at first, until I realized the problem was caused by changes
I had made using dxtweak in order to get realistic pedal movement in
F1 2001.  It's amazing how much personality each car has, and while
the stages are short they're much better imho than those in Rally
Masters and Colin McRae 2.0.  More atmosphere for starters, and more
variety in terms of challenges (as opposed to the standard 'let's
throw as many similar curves at the player as we possible can').  I
would love to drive these cars on the Rally Championship 2000 stages,
tho.

I hope Bugbear takes what they've learned making and patching RT and
puts out another top notch sim.  Assuming Papy doesn't throw their
hand in the rally sim genre, Bugbear may be our only hope.

Wow Im having some fun with this one....throwing it around. Just have
to get used to the deadly understeer when you let off the gas...

How far do I have to get to unlock that one?

Quite a few people at a couple of web message boards are saying this is a
bug and not how it should be. Physics are livley, but maybe a bit
exagerrated? It's fun, but it ain't no GPL.

I think the understeer is a bit over done for sure....basically you
cannot turn the Lancia Fulvia until its nearly stopped...when
approaching the left turn on the first stage.

Yea, I find that true of all the cars. It feels like the wheel is
disconnected when you completely lift off the gas. Try left foot braking to
overcome it.
