Ouch. Minis are slooooow and I think the Lancia Fulva and Opel Kadett
are a million times easier to drive on the limit depending on the
characteristics of the course. I'm fast everywhere with the Fulva and
it's imho the easiest car in the game to drive overall, but for some
reason I find the Kadett seems to work well on the high-speed Swiss
corners.
So far with a Microsoft Sidewinder wheel, no deadzone, and full
sensitivity, I'm finding every car to be a joy to drive, and the
detail of the driving model (in the patched version) to be easily on
par with GPL. I had some problems with my pedals acting like on/off
switches at first, until I realized the problem was caused by changes
I had made using dxtweak in order to get realistic pedal movement in
F1 2001. It's amazing how much personality each car has, and while
the stages are short they're much better imho than those in Rally
Masters and Colin McRae 2.0. More atmosphere for starters, and more
variety in terms of challenges (as opposed to the standard 'let's
throw as many similar curves at the player as we possible can'). I
would love to drive these cars on the Rally Championship 2000 stages,
tho.
I hope Bugbear takes what they've learned making and patching RT and
puts out another top notch sim. Assuming Papy doesn't throw their
hand in the rally sim genre, Bugbear may be our only hope.
