For those of you out there with this setup and no way to see mirrors try
this.

Enable NVIDA logo for D3D games, run in any res 16bit, works for me.

GF3
Athlon 1.4 oc'd to 1500
and all the rest of the good stuff :-)

Which drivers are you using ?

Mirrors works fine for me with 12.41 but not with 21.83 and more recent.

GF3
Athlon 1400

I'll try the logo with newer drivers to see, I hope THE PATCH will fix
everything...

What drivers are you running?  I'll try this as soon as I get home.  I
can get the mirrors with the 22.80 drivers, setting the resolution to
32 bit.  I run in 1600x1200 windowed mode to get rid of the stuttering
(no need to also run FRAPS).

Thanks for the info, Brian

What other settings are you using? I have a 1700+ and a gf3 and I get
stuttering in the corners sometimes at 1280x1080. I need to know how to get
this thing to run better. Thanks!!!

22.80 dets, DX8.1, SHUTTLE AK31A AMD K7 VIA APOLLO KT266A, with  built in
AC97 sound.
I tried 32bit but couldn't see the difference, looks the same. I have not
tried windowed mode ? how do you do this? Does it run faster ?

F1-2001 Mirrors on GeForce3

by BrianM » Sun, 18 Nov 2001 01:04:13

This may be long winded, but here's how I got my F1 2001 mirrors to work
with good framerates without stuttering at 1600x1200x32 with my GF3 on
Win98SE, using the latest 22.80 drivers, and DirectX 8.1.

In my Display Properties:
---------------
AA: off
"Enable fog table emulation" checked
"Adjust Z-buffer depth to rendering depth if unequal" checked
Mipmap detail level: Best image quality
Vertical syncmode: Always off
Render no more than: 3 frames ahead
PCI Texture Memory Size: 63MB

I set my desktop to 1600x1200x32 and I run in windowed mode with the
following in CONFIG.INI:
[COMPONENTS]
....
CPURATING=4
SYSTEMRAM=512
VIDEORAM=158
OBJDETAIL=3
TEXDETAIL=2
VIDEOGUID=D7B71E3E-4140-11CF-1D7E-1A2001C2C935
VIDEODRIVER=0
VIDEOMODE=27
WINDOWEDMODE=1 (**this in the only item I've changed manually with notepad)
PRIMARYONLY=0
FSAA=0
VSYNC=0

Using "F1 3D Setup", I select 1600x1200x32 and get a result of 20.9
MTri/second ("Fullscreen Anti-aliasing" unchecked and "User Vertical Sync"
unchecked).

I use the following graphic settings:

Circuit Detail: High (Full just adds a few more cranes and stuff, not a
noticeable framerate hit)
Player Vehicle: Full
Vehicle Lighting: Full
Shadows: High
Other Player Vihicle: Full
Image Quality: High (** Full makes a HUGE framerate hit and I can't notice
the difference due to incrediable stuttering, perhaps the patch will fix
this?)
Special Effects: Off (** even at low, I get slight stuttering when I drive
through tire skid smoke, hopefully the patch can fix this too?
Pit Crew Animation: High
----
Message Center: Off (it doesn't seem to work for me, I can't see anything
different when set on)
HUD: Off ( others have mentioned this has big impact, (it doesn't seem to
work for me, I can't see anything different when set on)
Broadcast Overlay: Off (no framerate hit, but others have mentioned this has
big impact)

AUDIO
-------
Audio Quality: High
Speech Content: High

My <player>.PLR file contains:
[GRAPHICOPTIONS]
BroadcastOverlay=0
Textures=2
Rearview=1
StartingView=1
MovingSWheel=1
HUD=0
AutoMap=1
PlayerDetail=3
OpponentDetail=3
Shadows=3
DustDetail=0
SmokeDetail=0
SkidDetail=0
ParticleDetail=0
PitcrewAnimDetail=2
SpecialEffects=0
TrackDetail=2
Groove=1
EnvMap=0
Filtering=1
Specular=1
DynamicLighting=2
VisibleVehicles=12
InCarDash=1
HiResDash=1
VG_Rear_Trees=0
VG_Rear_Grandstands=0
VG_Rear_Pitlane_Obj=0
VG_Rear_Bbs_fences=0
VG_Rear_Buildings=0
VG_Rear_Misc=0
VG_Rear_Bridges=0
VG_Rear_Shadows=0
SkyBoxDetail=2
ShadowsInTvCockpit=1 (this in the only item I've changed manually with
notepad)

BTW, enabling the nVidia logo did not work for me - I could not get the
mirrors to work (besides only seeing car shadows) in 16 bit color with the
22.80 drivers.

Hope this helps, Brian

Wow ! Windowed mode makes a huge difference. I just tried it...22,7
MTri/second w/1600x1200 32bit
I am luvin this Gainward GF3 "Vanilla", great deal from newegg ($230.00) and
powerful to boot.
Haven't tried any of these other tweaks yet, but Windowed kicks ass !

How does window mode work?  When I change it to "1" I play the game in a
huge window too large for my desk top.  Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Set the resolution and color depth of your desktop to the same resolution
and color you choose in F1 2001 3D Setup.  You can use the mouse to move the
window (which is slightly bigger than the desktop due to the top window
border) up such that the top window border is hidden from view - at this
point, it looks just like your playing in full screen.
