Hi, does anybody know where I can find **very detailed** information on car
physics such as suspension and lateral tyre grip? I am writing a simulation
and I don't want to 'rig' the physics like most racing games.

Cheers, Nick.

Nick,

At least a very good start would be getting the book "Race Car Vehicle
Dynamics" by William F. and Douglas L. Milliken
I think Amazon.com sells it and its about $90 - $100.00

Ahem:

Before another innocent strays off to the land of Amazon and long delivery
times, please go directly to the bookstore at our publisher --
        <http://www.sae.org>.
A search for "Milliken" or the stock number, R-146 should get you to "Race
Car Vehicle Dynamics" pretty quickly...and they have the book in stock to
ship immediately.  SAE is a great source for all sorts of automotive
engineering publications.

ps.  Check the archives of this newsgroup, there have been many threads
with the word "physics" in them, most will apply to your question.

I also have some books (plus ISDN) on my site that I've used in my
sim. Most of them are generally well-known and provide a lot of info
about suspensions and all that. More than you'll ever simulate at
least.

This is misleading perhaps. :) I meant titles of books plus IS*B*N
ofcourse. :)

You can take a look to this :

May not be detailed enough for your needs.

There are more of those, search the web and find upto chapters 25 or
so. Still, Brian's work takes a non-familiar route often, and I
recommend at least getting one or more books to get the nitty gritty
info. Start with the often Shamelessly Plugged Race Car Vehicle
Dynamics from Milliken & Milliken. ;-)
