Are the mad catz wheel/pedal things any good.
They seem to have too many unessesary knobs on it(ie gamepad & joysick &
buttons)

I got it about three months ago and the pedals have come apart at least
fifty times!
The buttons and stuff aren't the problem. The whole pedal system signal is
lost somewhere when it goes through the wheels base. In short the pedals
don't work. In my opinion, save your money for the T2, it's worth the wait

wait

Put some decent washers between the nut and the pedal bracket, and they
won't come apart as much.  I had the same problem, so I applied some
physics to the problem.  The movement of the pedals loosens the nut.
With the washer and 1 to 2 hours driving a day (yeah I'm an ***)
the pedals have stayed together for 3.5 weeks now and not even loosened.

I haven't had the problem with a *signal* not getting through.  If you've
broken the pedals FIFTY times (at least) then they must work enough
to drive with.  I'd suggest modifying your controls setup and low
sensitivity zones.

Its a good steering wheel, despite it having a bad angle.  I just put
something underneath the wheel to adjust it.
All the extra buttons are for other games like, mechwarror, where you
have lots of weapons, and can rotate the uperhalf of your body while
steering the robot in a different direction (the purpose of the joypad
in the middle).

As for looks and handeling it's great.  The shape of it an Actuall
Williams Renault, because their steering wheels are rectangular and
wide.  Which is a common feature on most of the high nosed F1 cars.

All of the other extra buttons make it look like a real F1 steering
wheel too.  It's too bad they didn't make you require to push a button
on the keyboard or Steering to limit speed in the pits.  It would have
made the game alot more realistic.  The MadCatz is on of the few
steering wheels that would have the extra buttons to accomodate it.

I've had similar problems with the Mad Catz pedals.  The fix is simple.
Just unscrew the back panel (screws are hidden by pads), remove the pedals
from the unit (one***in front) and turn the knob back to the neutral
position (it won't move any further).  Then carefully put the pedal back
into the grooves on the knob w/o moving the knob from the neutral
position.  Replace the pedal & back panel and you're as good as new!
