Depends on your processor (it screams on 800+ mhz PC's).  I'll say a Kyro II
is a better card for long-term N4 investment.  It kicks arse in N4 :)

GTS2, it does T&L which N4 will take advantage of.

You have a KyroII? In most tests I've seen a GTS2 is faster. It's only
in certain games that a KyroII kicks arse. N4 uses T&L, Kyro2 does not
do T&L. Geforce2 does.

Like I said, it all depends on the processor.

I'm writing an article and happened to run some benchmarks in N4.  With
333 -560 MHz range processors T&L increases FPS in N4 roughly 20% on
average.  If you have a 2GHz P4 it might just run faster with T&L turned
off.

I'm planning to go with an Athlon 1.4 GHz

How do you mean? Are you talking scalability or what?

Here's a good article on the Kyro2. They don't test it on N4, but it
will give you a good idea of what to expect. If money is tight I would
go Kyro2, but if it isn't I still think a Geforce2/3 is a better card
overall.

Here's an exerpt that pretty well sums it up. Personally, I just might
buy the Kyro3 because it will have a T&L processor.

"If you're looking for the flat-out fastest video card in the budget
segment, the Kyro II clearly fits the bill, but as it's priced now
(between the GeForce2 MX and GeForce2 GTS) some might be better off
saving a few dollars and upgrading instead to one of the performance
T&L offerings from ATI or NVIDIA. They may cost a bit more and lose to
Kyro II in some situations (read: FSAA) but you may be glad you went
that route later this year when the first crop of DirectX 8 games hits
store shelves."

N4: KyroII or GTS2?

Stefano,

The GF2 GTS is faster (by quite a bit, particularly at higher rez's) than
the GF3 with older games like N4 and GPL.  However, the GTS was so pricey
that nVidea has effectively discontinued the board (altho you can still find
them...if you look real hard) so that they have some wiggle room to further
reduce the price of the GF3.  The cheaper MX is pretty good (it doesn't give
away *much* below 1024x768), and I find support superior to the Kyro II.
I'd recommend the 7.52 Detonators, altho the later drivers may be stable by
now.

I'll do an update of the article when new interesting drivers arrive. I
don't expect to see any changes before DirectX 8.1 final arrives as it
should have much better Kyro II support. As far as I have read, Microsoft
has hard-coded chip support into DX instead of checking whether the chip
supports certain features.
