Most simmers have wheels
I have a MS FF wheel with 6 buttons on front
why not:
do away with F keys for info screens and...
use a left-right toggle that can be programmed using the wheel buttons and....
toggles for selecting setup, tyre and fuel option for the other buttons.

That way you could make selections for the pits in real time without pausing
the sim.
My two pennies worth, anyway!

You can do that already with several programs on the web. They take
and let you remap key commands to whatever you want, even joystick
buttons.
