Monza lap-times and other thoughts...

Hi all,
Just recently bought GP2 and am wondering what's considered a good
lap-time at Monza with opposite lock help but no steering/throttle help?
I use a joystick and can get 1:22.8 on a good day.  I have DLed a car
setup that can supposedly get 1:20 but I can't drive it worth a damn
without the steering help.
Do many people use steering help, or do most of you race without it?
I find it too artificial personally - like driving on rails.
I use opposite lock help mainly because of the inaccuracy of
using a joystick.  I think if I had a wheel it would be easier to drive
with all the help turned off.
Is it worth buying a wheel, and, if so, what's the best model for the money?

Regards,

Actually even with a wheel I like to have opposite lock on.  Just incase
I get a little throttle happy.  You can't save it with out it.  I use a
T2 and it has been ok, support is great when it does break but I am
pretty *** it and it has stayed together pretty well.

You can save it, it just takes more practice and learning how to spot the
symptoms of an impending spin _before_ it happens!

Opposite lock would be OK if it didn't do some really dumb things, but I
prefer to know that I'm controlling the car myself ;-)

Cheers,
Richard

bye a wheel for sure...after playing with wheel you'll wonder what you've
been doing all this time. I paid about $180 ozzy dollars which is about the
same in CAD$.

There was a competition on the net a while back, for the fastest time at
monza?
I think the winning time was around 1:19:? (without the use of an editor
I believe?)

Depends what control device you are using? You should use steering help
if you have a digital or switched device, but you should not use it if
you have an analogue wheel or joystick.

If you haven't hear this before then listen good - do not buy Mad Catz
wheel. Apparently it is the cheapest one here in NZ which is why I bought
it. It doesn't centred well at all, therefore you can rule out the
possibility of driving without steering help. The pedal sucks, it get
loose easily and that also rule out driving without the F7 key. Still it
is so much better compared to joystick or keyboard - you can actually
have fun drving it. Monza is relatively an easy circuit and with
steering. opposite lock and F7 help, I can turned out a consistent 1.22.3
- 1.22.7s even though the setup could go way faster.

If money is not a problem, get the best one you can find e.g. T2?? or
else Mad Catz is the next best thing.
