Hi all,

here is something for you to try:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

be sure to read the Readme before trying it out:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

You are installing it at your own risk! Nothing should happen, though,
but just to let you know it hasn't been tested much. It requires an
OpenGL capable 3D accelerator and DirectX 8 installed.

Ouch, I definitely must upgrade to DX8 then! Yikes, I have to postpone
that for at least a week, before I can afford to perhaps mess up my
working system. ;-)

I'm very curious. Perhaps it's a nice idea to put up some screenshots
on your page?

Well I've tried it, but unfortunately haven't been able to get my MS
Precision Racing Wheel [non-FF] set up properly. Gregor [or anyone with a
similar wheel] - what settings would you recommend I use in input.ini?

Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,

I don't have that wheel, but do try to run the Joystick.exe program that
is found in the same dir (thanks to Ruud for the idea!). You'll see
which axis then corresponds to which input, and you may edit the
input.ini file accordingly. One thing to check is whether some axes need
to be flipped. Both the accelerator and the brake axis needed the
command on my wheel (e.g. add the line FLIP Y_AXIS; if Y_AXIS is your
accelerator axis that is interpreted badly).

Unfortunately, if your wheel uses one of the Slider axes I somehow
didn't incorporate those yet. However, I will during the weekend.

Hi Ruud,

trust me, the screenshots are nothing to write home about. It's
currently all a physics model with a placeholder track (a simple
constant bank oval) and car graphics, with only one camera (driver's
view) available at the time. It's very ugly, but I think the physics
feel rather good.

Also, DirectX 8.0 didn't cause any trouble for me, and I heard good
reports as well. Be sure to get the 8.0a version, though, I think it
fixes some glitches with USB devices, although I haven't found any with
the 8.0 version (and I have two USB controllers plugged in).

Ok, I'll try it after next week, when not everybody's knocking at my
door with deadlines.
Thanks for the credit on your page btw. :)

Ok, sounds good, I had been reading so many 'DX8 screwed up my
computer!' things. I have an MSFF wheel btw so I'll try to work the
controller thing out. Have been doing nearly the same thing myself
with negating axes so must be possible. :)

Thanks for putting it up,
