Live for Speed very slow.. less than 1 FPS??

by Tim Epstei » Mon, 19 Aug 2002 23:26:04

Hi,

Thanks to Karsten for the "out of the blue" online Sim "Live for Speed"
link.

I downloaded and installed it, but it's running at about .5 FPS on my 1GHZ
Athlon with 384MB RAM and Nvidia Ti4600 Video card, even when set to minimal
graphics (640x480, all options off).

Any ideas, as it looks like it could be great!

Thanks,
Tim

I just installed it, haven't found the option to check fps but judging
with the bare eye it's more than decent on my p3 866 GF2 gts.
Running in 1024 with default gfx options on.
Can't help you yet, but at least you know now that the sim -should-
run very smooth on your system..

Thanks, but no luck, even with all sound off.

Maybe its an OS problem? I'm running Windows 2000. What OS are you using?

Has anyone got this Sim running on Windows 2000 ok yet?

Tim ....why did you buy a GF4 ti 4600 and not a Ti4200 and a decent CPU...?

I'm running win2k as well, and I've noticed the following things:

1) Don't touch ANY keys while the sim is starting up.  I did, and had to
reboot at the title screen.

2) After the reboot, I waited thru the title, and the brief replay, and
got to the point where it let me configure the driver.  After I was
done, I clicked Next, and the program just sat there making the click
noise over and over again.  I had to reboot again.

I'm done playing with it until the next version.

I've had the computer system for 2 years - it came with Geforce 2 GTS 64.
The CPU is Slot A, so no upgrade path without changing m/board as well.
I want to wait for AMD hammer before upgrading entire system, rather than
waste money now on Athlon M/board.

So, I took the option of upgrading video card a couple of months ago, and
will swap the video card to new system early next year.

I'm happy with the results - almost all bottlenecks I had were games where
the video rather than CPU was the bottleneck.

Same thin happened to me ---rebooted and worked fine. Don't miss out on a
great time because it gave you a little problem. Give it a chance, it's only
version 0.04k BETA. Try again and you won't be disappointed.

I have the same problem Tim on a P4 1.6 gig, 512 of 333 ram with a Radeon
8500. Starts out at 60+ FPS then quickly drops to 3 or 4 :-(

Could not get it to run on a Voodoo 3 at all. It simply crashed back
to desktop every time the sim was launched.

I'm getting around 80 with one car, but after adding 7 or 8 AI cars it
dropped to 30.  That's a pretty big drop!

This is very cool though.

If you haven't found it yet, hit the "F" key when playing!

It takes away the body, and shows just you, the tires/wheels, and the frame
along with a spike per wheel that shows the exact forces on that wheen at
any one time.  I like it!
