Framerate drop with Thrustmaster wheel

Still battling to install my thrustmaster 360 modena wheel by USB, I decided
to plug it into my normal gameport to see what it was like.

Loads of errors and crashes, finally got a couple of games working - GP3 and
GPL, along with TOCA2.

GP3 was like treacle, GPL had the controls reversed (steer left to go right)
and Toca expereinced a fps of around 12, with a GeForce Ti4200, 394mb of ram
and 900mhz processor! The gameport is pluggdd inot the back of an AC'97
card, but I have'nt ever expereinced frame drop before until this wheel.

Once I unplugged the device from my machine and uninstalled it from the
control panel all the games ran as sweet as ever, with GP3 up around 26fps,
Toca the same, but GPL unplayable without an analogue device, so I guess
I'll have to wait.

Anyone have expereince of this? Is it Thrustmaster's drivers that slow
things down?

I run a thrustmaster 360 modena on a lower spec machine than yours (amd k6/3
450Mhz) and have had no problems whatsoever, as have two of my friends. It
might be an idea, however, to get the latest software from the thrustmaster
website, although the CD worked well for me in win 98 (it wasn't supported
in XP, so i had to downlaod the latest drivers when i upgraded, but they
worked fine too).

Don't use a gameport, from I've heard your are asking for trouble by
attempting it, and USB is a better protocol.

I've got a Ferrari FF wheel and have never had a problems until F1-2002. In
that the FPS drops by half! OK I still get 30fps but a 50% drop is abit of a
yoke.

It's a shame becsue the FF in F1-2002 is the best yet.

Sadly, the wheel isn't FF!!

I'm now wondering if there is a problem with drivers and the gameport, but
how I go about tracking it down is beyond me...
