F1RS: Patch 1.09?

by Iain Mackenzi » Wed, 06 May 1998 04:00:00

I tested the patch for Ubi for the 'black sky' problem, and it fixed it for
me. Under what circumstances do you get the problem?
Are you sure it is patched correctly? Type 'ver' in the game to check the
version number.

F1RS: Patch 1.09?

by Iain Mackenzi » Thu, 07 May 1998 04:00:00

Richard,
Are you sure you are running ver 1.09? Type VER in the game.
If so, do a clean install, patch to 1.09 and see if the problem is still
there. 1.09 got rid of the problem for me.

>Hi Iain,

>I was running 1.08. I started a season, and went through the sessions to
>the race. The weather was variable for the race. I saved the race, then
>re-loaded. The sky was black.

>I rebooted the computer, started the game, and re-loaded the saved game.
>The sky was still black.

>I patched to 1.09, and re-loaded the saved game - the sky was still
>black.

>I then started from the beginning, only now running 1.09 and I still got
>a black sky when I re-loaded a saved race.

>I'm running a K6, 200 with 32Mb RAM, a diamond stealth 64 video vram,
>and a diamond monster.

>This black sky bug is the most annoying for me, as it stops the weather
>from changing. I hope they fix it soon.

Hi, the game is save in path x:\Ubisoft\F1RS\Saved\games, if you want to keep
your
config and setup for the keep files in sub name Configs and settings. For
ghost laps,
there are in sub name Scope.

Bye Coco

F1RS: Patch 1.09?

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Ubi Soft to fix the black sky. This
bug was in POD which came out a year ago. F1RS was created using the POD
engine.

You know it! Ubisoft isn't NEARLY as responsive as Microsoft, who fix
THEIR bugs right away! Yo, David -- when's the next CPR
patch/fix/version? Those guys back from vacation yet?

Do you have the 'black sky' problem with 1.09? Under what circumstances?
1.09 fixed it for me, and I have never had (nor heard of anyone else having)
the problem in POD.

Something I noticed when patching F1RS is to make sure that the voodoo.exe is not
marked as "read only" in its properties.

F1RS: Patch 1.09?

by David G Fishe » Fri, 08 May 1998 04:00:00

I never had the black sky problem in either titles. It was a bug which was
discussed quite a bit at the UbiSoft/POD message boards. Also at the POD
user web sites. I talked to a number of POD racers who had the problem. My
comment about not holding your breath waiting for a fix wasn't meant as a
dig against Ubi Soft. I've been a fan of thenm since I first loaded up POD.
It's just that the black sky bug was a bit of a mystery a year ago and it
seems to still be one now.

The black sky problem has been addressed in 1.09, and is now fixed.
