Hey Papy,
Is sierra-papyrus working on an offer to purchase the rights to Daytona?
The sega license expires in April correct? Just wanting an update.

AFAIK, Sega has already renewed the license. But even if it was still
available, Sierra could never hope to out-bid Sega for it. So until
Sega decides to drop Daytona and not renew their license, we will not
be seeing it in any other company's game.

And of course they won't do that because they want to cash in on the
household name value of Daytona International, forget the fact that
the game has nothing to do with Daytona other than that name printed
on the game materials.
What a waste.....

Hopefully NASCAR can step in and work out some kind of deal. I mean how
can they sanction the NRO as an actual NASCAR league (like WC) when
their marquee tracks (Daytona and Indy) aren't available? I'm sure
that's the first thing new racers will be asking about.
(Knowing my luck, the tracks will become available for the NRO, but not
for guys like me that are happy trying to avoid wrecking AI cars and
modem racers :-) ).
BTW Papyrus, when the NRO goes online, what kind of marketing does
NASCAR have in mind (TV spots, etc...)?

I don't know, but I hope there is. I remember The Pit's Daytona project
was about to be sued by Daytona (NASCAR's International Speedway Corp.),
even though it is more realistic. Lets bug Daytona until they get their
wits off Sega and realise the truth about their fake "daytona" in Sega
Daytona.
