GPL, 3dfx, OpenGL and DirectX

I bought a Diamond Monster2 specifically for GPL a couple of years ago.
My questions:
What is the best DirectX version for GPL?
How (and do I need to) keep up with current OpenGL driver/software?
And is there any tweaking that could make a real difference with the 3dfx
card?

With DX7.0a and the newest 3dfx drivers from www.3dfxgamers.com
everything should be ok...
