After a clock smash at monza, the AI are whizzing round like mad bastards.
can I get them back to normal, but just at monza?  I don't want them to be
too easy to beat at the other tracks. how?

thanks

If I recall correctly, go to GPL/Tracks/Monza folder , open file record.ini
in notepad and edit the track record line to something more believable
i.e.
time = 87.497993                         ; Lap time of record holder

That should affect the AI at Monza only

Hmmm, are you sure? I believe you've to delete the player.sts in your
player's folder to reset the AI....on all tracks, I'm afraid...

Well I can't say that I'm 100% sure since its been a while. Just went to my
player folder and noticed that the player.ini file also contains information
regarding the fastest laps by the player. It is also editable though so
thats another area that the original questioner could check out. Originally
I had assumed that he was referring to someone elses fast lap  since all the
fast laps on my computer are held by other people . BRM's are not the fast
way around any track.:)

Best way to edit the AI and the track defaults is to use the AI Tweaker
that you can find in the GPL section of The Pits...

http://www.theuspits.com/owheel/gpl/gpl.html

Look for the AI Tweaker in the Utilities section. It's an excellent
program that allows you to tweak a number of different factors. For
those new tracks that were not in the original GPL, go into the
track.ini file and look for the following lines:

dlong_speed_adj_coeff = [some value]
dlong_speed_maximum = [some value]

These allow you to change the speed of the AI at that track.

Have you got a copy of Kari Ikonen's AI Tweaker?, available for download
from http://www.theuspits.com/ in the GPL/Utilities section

Have you got a hex editor.  If so then I can explain how to do it as you
need to edit the player.sts file directly.  I'm not sure if this will
set the AI back to what they used to be, but does at least put them back
to something acceptable.   If you want to try it then you can email me
directly, unless there are others here that would be interested in how
this works. :)

If you have knowledge of the layout of that file there is a website
devoted to documenting the various file layouts used by GPL.  It would
be good to contribute this knowledge to the userbase.  There's a link
from Alison's site to it.

OK Brett, I'll check it out.  My knowledge of this file is by no means
complete, but if there's nothing available at the mo then I'm happy to
include what I've learnt. :)

I know what you mean on my GPL Hill has a time of 1:18:?? at Monza!
Now the AI seems to think that I am that good . . . Heck I am luck to
break 1:33 at Monza.
