Yeah, Geoff Crammond popped by this group a couple of months ago and
took a few votes on whether it was worthwhile or not. Most people told
him that a 3dFX patch for GP2 would be pretty useless, as we had all
moved on from GP2 to some real sims like Need for Speed II. On hearing
that he cancelled the patch and also some nonsense called GP3 that he
was working on, and began coding Revs2 for the Commodore 63 emulator.

No, we've never heard of such a thing ;)

Cheers!

Blimey that touched a nerve John ?!!!. Anyway how about a track editor.
Surely there must be a way of
writing one, so that you can design your own tracks (isn't a track pack
available soon, they must have
created it some how ?).

Oh well, I hope UBI softs F1 is up to scratch, then there won't be a need
for a 3DFX patch for GP2 or indeed
GP3 !!

Right. Were these people GP2/3DFX owners? I think this is total bullshit.
These is no way he could have read messages here and not know that
3D support is needed. In fact I figure the original message was a troll.

Agreed!!!

There really is a GP3 coming?  Thanks for info.

I agree - I also refuse to buy games anymore that don't support 3dfx ...

3dfx patch for GPII

At this time MicroProse have no plans to create any GP2
patches/expansions/addon's etc that would allow support for the 3dfx card
or any other "wish-list" feature.  At this time neither Geoff Crammond or
MicroProse are planning to publish any sequel to this game, be it called
GP3 or anything else.  If we decide to publish any new titles we will let
everyone know by placing a press release on our WWW site.

Mark Rich/MicroProse-Europe

Dear Mr. Rich,

I am sorry but I feel it necessary to offer my comments about your
software company.  Microrprose is without a doubt about the worst
company in the industry when it comes to supporting/updating a product
after it is released.  It is obvious that your marketers care about one
thing - getting the consumers dollar - and not about creating a quality
product.

If your marketers woke up and took their head out of their arse and took
a lesson from Microsoft, you would be doing all of your customers a big
favor.  Why is the Microsoft flight simulator series one of the best
selling in history?  Because it is the best simulator?  Not usually ...
but consumers can count on a "bigger" and "better" version next year
with incremental improvements.  Who is Microsoft?  Only the most
successful company in the industry ...  Who is Microprose?  Obviously
NOT Microsoft.

Well the good news is that Microsoft has discovered the popularity of
racing simulators -- and CART Precision racing will take the same path
as Flight Simulator -- upgrade and improvement.  As for Microprose -- I
suspect that I have purchased my *last* Microprose produced or developed
product.

Am I stupid enough to think that this message will make it's way to
someone meaningful at your company -- nahh -- but at least I feel better
writing it.

Doug Burg

OK, what makes you think that if Crammond/MPRS won't do it (presumably
because they judge that it wouldn't be profitable, even given that they
have the source code and experience in the graphics engine of the
product) that a third party, without access to the source will be able
to do it profitably? :-)

I agree that this is the only tactic that works in the long run, but in
this case, it doesn't make techincal sense...
