SCGT v GPL

Can any one tell whether SCGT will look as good or have as much depth as
GPL. I realise that the games are basically different but the graphics in
GPL have really spoilt me. The only thing I hated about GPL was that it took
so much work just to race a lap or two without crashing. I would like to buy
a racing sim that will let me just let off a little steam in the evening,
after work, but be as immersive as GPL without the 300% effort on my brain!
Is SCGT the game?
(Just for info, I have a P2 450 with 256mb ram ad 2x12mb Monster 3dfx
cards).

I would think this is the game you are looking for.  Read all of the posts
about intense racing the great graphics etc.  With your SLI setup this
should be more graphically beautiful than GPL.

Well I made the switch due to how much work GPL was to go fast and it got
to be no fun to go bang around for a few mintues after work to decompress.
SCGT has been fun and you have so many physics choices with the Advance
options released by "Friends of ISI"

I will admit a certain amount of satifaction in my first 127 at Monza in
GPL.  My First under 2 minute run at Rouen, and most of all my 153 At
mexico in the BRM.  But it took so long to get there and Finally wiht my PC
being a low end for GPL I gave up.  At one point I was in 5th place at Hans
VanDams Hotgrids.

What SCGT is enjoyable is that I can decide how deep into a sim I want,
Also I like Sports Cars.  GP cars and Champ cars are fine, but I grew up on
Sports Cars.  My favorite car is a Lola Frisbee Sports Racer.  To me that
is only thing this game is missing and if someone can do some car shapes we
could be racing Sports Racers of may kind since you have so many choices on
HP. Just think of being able to run anything from a 280 hp Sports Racer to
a full out 900 hp older Style Cam Am car with the 60s part of advanced
options.  Also you can do a wild high grip 900 hp car that will run unreal
corner speeds.

Overall,  I don't expect someone who loves GPL to drive SCGT much, but some
of us who are not wanting or cannot put the time into GPL to get the
enjoyment out of it SCGT is a good choice.

There are also two offline leagues to choose from right now to race with.
The only drawback I see wtih SCGT is online play seems to be limited to a
one and one racing and dpending on internet load that is iffy.

Then SCGT is perfect for you. Its looks better, its has a lot of depth but
doesn't take months to learn how to drive.

I like this game alot BUT the sound is really bad,  the road noise and traffic are so loud that you can't
hear your own car, and have to watch the tach for your shifting Q's.

Well, I played the SCGT demo and unless something has changed in the final
edition, the game is not a sim. Getting in a car the first time ever and
going out and running around a 12 turn course without difficulty is not my
idea of a sim. An accurate game maybe, but not a sim. If driving one of
those cars is that easy, I've got a plan!<G> No, but seriously, GPL is the
only true sim on the market, including the NASCAR2/NR1999 game that I love
and play more than GPL. If you could drive one of those cars that easily,
then I would like to give it a try. Me thinks it wouldnt be. If so, let's
all get out there for real! Until then, let's keep GPL above everything else
where it belongs until maybe N2000 and let's enjoy the rest of the "games"
out there also.

Phillip

For what it's worth, the demo driving model was "dumbed down" for the masses.
All the cars in the demo, to me, drive nearly identical to the GTQ cars in the
full version, at least in terms of difficulty. The full version is harder and
more realistic, and the Advanced Options editor offers sim level physics that
are at least close to GPL. (given the differences in vehicle types, of course.)

Try turning braking and steering assist OFF.  SCGT is PLENTY hard and
lots of FUN!  More fun IMO than GPL but not as physically accurate.  I
have yet to roll my car in SCGT.

I rolled my 911 last night. twice.  The first was a major disappointment
since I was leading at Chatham.  I was trying to lap the 7th place car and
he swung extra wide coming out of the turn 2, well his front hit my inside
rear quarter and sent me rolling.  I rolled twice and ended up on my wheels!
I only had second gear so it was a long limp back to the pits.  I finished
9th.  Very disappointing to say the least.

The second roll was less exciting but still fun.
