N4: Need a framerate limiter, please?

by Colin Harri » Mon, 02 Apr 2001 09:17:54

My N4 purrs along quite happily at about 45 fps the majority of the time,
but I notice a stutter going round bends at some tracks (Rock most
noticeably). A check of the framerate shows that the fps briefly goes UP to
about 70, and that's what's causing the stutter. Is there any way to 'limit'
or 'max out' the framerate? Say, go to a maximum of 45fps?
 Thanks for the help...

Beg pardon; System specs are AMD K7 750, SBLive, Voodoo 3, 128Mb RAM.

Well I have only a guess...what is the refresh rate your monitor is set
at?
Perhaps you have a low refresh rate and your system is overloading the
drivers.
two things to check..make sure Vsync is disabled and your refresh rate is at
least 75hz

I was about to suggest the opposite.  Enable vsync and lower the
refresh rate.  That should limit the framerate.

Only thing is, Vsync's a Glide thing, yes? But I'm running it D3D. Moot
point, anyway, cos I tried it and no change. I'll try suggestion 2 now!

no vsync is not a glide only option...I have no clue about where it might
be in your driver set, but it should be there to shut off somehow...
