Which Graphics Card?

I was wondering which card would produce the best framerate with the
most reasonable amount of details,a Matrox Millenium 4Mb 3D card or a
Diamond 4mb 3d?I know both cards would probably do the trick.I mainly
play Nascar and GP2 and when its released Nascar 2.Which Diamond card is
faster Vram or Dram?Right know I'm using a Diamond Stealth 64 graphics
2000 with 2mb Dram.If I go with the Diamond would S3spdup make more of a
difference with these better Diamond cards? Thanks in advance.

If you are mainly upgrading in order to make your games go faster,
keep in mind that N2 will have direct support for the Rendition chip.

Right now, I am a little upset with myself for having bought a Millenium about
four months ago:  I'd like to buy a Rendition card for the enhanced ICR2, but
I don't want to take a step backwards on video performance under Windows NT.
Right now I run 1024x768 in true color and it positively screams.  I'm not
sure how much difference you will see with GP2--it seems that a faster CPU
helps more than a faster video card.

From my experience, Matrox Millenium card are about the top notch you can
get out there, particularly price/performance. I'm running a Diamond
Stealth 64 Video VRAM (2Mb) which, depending upon what benchmarks you
rate, is putting through 22Mb/sec. Benchmarks are however fine for
comparisons, at which point a Matrox Millenium WRAM on my friends PC
put through twice as much - 44Mb/sec. It clearly runs quicker just from
my experience watching the two machines run various games. Plus here in
the UK (at least) they two cards are very similar in price.

As for a Diamond 3D card, these 3d cards are all much of a muchness at the
moment as it would seem we're all waiting for a standard. However if I was
to put my money on one, it would between the S3/Diamond versions and the
MGA (Matrox) ones...

- Vram is quicker than Dram. Wram is quicker than both.

Hope this answers a few of your questions.

Cheers,
Dan

What about the InterGraph Reactor and other Virate cards??? They
CLEARLY have support!!!

   a)  Vram is not necessarily faster than Dram....Newer versions of
Dram chips are faster than older video cards with Vram memory.

   b)  Wram is only faster than Vram in Windows....Thus, the name,
"Windows"-RAM....Wram is slightly SLOWER than the faster Vram cards in
DOS programs......THIS IS FACT...

Very true.

This may be so (can't comment) but the WRAM Matrox seems easily quicker
than the DS VRAM in both Windows and DOS. If you say this is a fact,
clearly it is other aspects of the Matrox that make it perform better.

Hehe :]

Try MDram from tseng labs et6000 chipset,it's the fastest ram at this
point. Look closely at Hercules Dynamite/128 Video --> best card in DOS
mode. Also very good in WINDOWS. The best thing is the price:

2MB MDram is $135 U.S --\ still available
4MB Mdram is $199 U.S --/ out of stock (too much demand)

At USA FLEX 1-800-872-3539 (i don't work there)

For GP2 purpose :(2Mb MDram)800x600 256 colors 120hz refresh rate
other game :(2Mb Mdram)1024x768 65,536 colors 90 hz refresh rate
                 (2Mb Mdram)800x600 16.7M colors 90 hz refresh rate
                 (2Mb Mdram)1280x1024 256 colors 75 hz refresh rate

Look at others and compare,WRAM,VRAM,SDRAM are slower.. for a good
explanation on Multibank Dram look at Tseng Labs homepage:
forgot it...use Yahoo and type TSENG LAB

Download there hypertext doc,and pay attention on this new technology.

It's flying now in SVGA mode WOW!
