Have been sucessfull in GPL modem to modem conx with son #2 - US
Robotics 56k Fax modem (upgraded to V90) and a generic Packard Bell
winmodem at 21600 bps.

Having trouble with conx to son #1  who has an Acer 56k Fax modem.

Conx with son #1 attempted at all bps from 21600 to 33600.  Connects,
synchronizes, and opens channel.  Then closes channel and disconnects.

Would appreciate any ideas that might solve problem.

I run PII 350 son #1 running PII 400.

I hate modems.

I would throw my hands up in disgust and simply get online
where I could play son#1 and son#2 at the same time.  Using
the same ISP will usually provide good results as you'll be
kept inside their network.  It will be a bit slower due to IP
headers but if your packets keep the the lower levels of the
network, you might get away with very few hops and nice
low pings.

Or you could get a cable modem and host 20 of us :-)

Since there are racing sims that have been released in the last year and a
half which allow you to host excellent, low warping, relatively disconnect
free, 8 person TCP/IP racing on just a 28.8-56k modem with people on
different continents all in the same race, you should be able to host your
two sons in GPL too with no problem. Unfortunately, GPL recommends you host
as a maximum no more than 2 other racers on your 56k modem so you will be
pushing the limits?? The pings will have to be 250 or better instead of the
higher pings successfully allowed in other software.

If you can't easily have success hosting 2 others, you will be told by a
certain group of r.a.s. readers that it's your.......ISP's fault.......
without them touching on the fact that a 3 person race max in a 28.8-56k
modem hosted race is ridiculous for a new sim.

If you've had 1,000+ hours of extremely successful online racing in the past
year and a half in other sims already, you'll be told that it's your
ISP's...............fault???

Doesn't make much sense, I know.

The games themselves apparently have NOTHING to do with the results you get.
Or so that group of r.a.s. readers will tell you.

David G Fisher   (I'll e-mail you with less sarcastic info to try to really
help you out. My post above is basically an inside joke directed at a
certain few here at r.a.s. and I honestly hope you can race with your two
sons. It's easy to imagine it could be tremendous fun for all of you.)   :-)
