I watched the Adelaide race meeting today on TV and they showed one of the
12-lap races for the Historic F1 cars.

Sir Jack Brabham drove a McLaren M7A but didn't get far as he suffered a
mechanical problem but will be back tomorrow.
Pete Lovely had his 30 year-old Lotus 49, which is in Gold Leaf colours.  He
had a race-long battle with Dave Livingstone, driving the ex-Amon 1968
Ferrari 312.  The Ferrari won the race, causing the commentator to remark
that Ferrari are on a roll, with their second win of 1999! :o)
In addition to the above cars there was a BRM H-16, a BRM V12, several
assorted Lotii (31, 25 etc) and Aussie Bib Stilwell in his ex-Tasman Cup
Brabham BT31 with 2.5 litre Repco V8.

Watching these cars gave me goosebumps as I had actually seen both the BT31
and the Lotus 49 in action against each other at Warwick Farm 31 years ago.

I can assure you that the noises emanating from the television were totally
glorious!!

Best regards,
Bruce.

Wow amazing.  Were you guys in the movie Grand Prix? : ) Must be very
interesting seeing those cars racing both then and now. I have never seen
these cars in action, what a treat it would be. They were really goin at it
pretty hard, yes?

Yes I watched it too. Have to say I was a little emotional myself. Having
sat at the Hatch as a kid and watched em roar round. Have to say the race
made modern F1 look positively boring. Major pissed as a mate of mine at
Adelaide was actually there. They weren't playing either it was full on
racing. If it's on again next year I'll be there. What an awesoem sight it
was. The cars were immacualte. What a shame Sir Jack broke down he was going
flat chat before that and wasn't it great to see him working on it on the
side of the road. What a legend. Still got it at 72.

Loved his coment whn they asked him what he thought of the 1968 McLaren he was
driving. he said they were no good in 1968 and are still no good 30 years later.
Matbe next yeat Bib Stilwell will let him drive the Brabham.
