GPL Reliability / Setup

Ive been driving GPL pretty hard lately and i can now manage 1:30-31 quite
easily around monza. The only problem is that i must be driving the wheels off
the lotus as after just 10-15 laps the damn engine blows. Now im changing gears
smoothly letting off the throttle an all and smooth conering but i just cant
seem to get the car round without thrashing it. My tire temps are pushing 250
on most laps.

Another thing. Has anyone figured out which dials represent what on the lotus
yet. Im guessing that the two immediately right of the tacho are oil pressure
and temperature but the rest baffle me.

Well the Lotus wasn't really known for it's reliability, so you'll
need to be careful with it if you want the engine to last a whole
race.

I sent Jeffrey Hunsberger a list of all of the gauges and their ranges
which has compiled in a convenient web page:
http://www.voicenet.com/~jeffreyh/gpl/gplgauges.html

Here are the details for the Lotus (starting on the left and working
around clock-wise):
Water Pressure: 30-110C
Tach: RPM x 1000 (1-12)
Oil Pressure (top half): 0-160 lbs
Oil Temp (bottom half): 30-140C
Fuel Pressure: 0-160 lbs

Wouldn't you think these types of things would be included in the manual?

Actually, it's the Eagle that is known for it's lack of reliability, not
the Lotus.

What page does it tell what all of the guage ranges are, and what each guage
is for each car?
Well Trips?  Where is it?  Let me know when you find it.
Thanks

The manuals don't cover the guages well, but you can get that info on
Alison Hine's great website. http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~alison/gpl

Hope that helps

I think both....just look at the finishing (or not) records for the year

The Loti had the all-new Cosworth engine for the last nine races (the
49). It was a bit unreliable, and difficult to drive at first....but
fast:)

I am a newbie at this, but maybe try just lengthening 5th gear one or
two clicks just before the race. If you are hitting redline down the
straights every lap maybe that's what beating up your engine. If not
that then it must be shifting.

There's another thread in this group regarding GPL gauges. You might
want to check it out. This is one of the urls you'll find mentioned
